I am very interested in watching old movies from pre 1950’s and foreign films but I am wondering where I can see/get/rent them? I live in a small Missouri town and our local video stores have some old movies like Ben Hur, Casablanca, and It’s a Wonderful Life. However, the selection is very limited and there really are none/few foreign films. Any ideas?
I hesitate to plug an online vendor, but here I go. I use http://www.netflix.com and I get four movies out at one time for $20 a month. (These are DVD’s BTW) They are sent to your house and you keep them as long as you want.
As far as finding movies you might try looking at http://www.imdb.com.

I really like netflix. They have tons of titles. One of the main reasons I wanted a DVD player was so I could use netflix and have such excellent selection of hard to find titles.
A friend of mine just signed up on my recomendation and he only gets three movies at a time for $20. I signed up about 7 months ago and I get four. I guess they are getting a lot of business and don’t want to expand their inventory to keep up.
American Movie Classics is a cable network that shows all sorts of older movies I’ve never heard of. If you get a satellite you can get it anywhere in the country.

My public library has movies that you can check out for free for 3 days or something. I think they have a lot of old/foreign movies. Perhaps your public library does the same?
You don’t say anything about cable/satellite access, but in addition to AMC (American Movie Classics), there’s also TMC (Turner Movie Classics). Even TBS, TNT, A&E, Bravo, and your local PBS station will run old movies (and the last 3 also run foreign), though they are more likely to be ones more readily available. The library idea (from c_goat) is also a good one.
Sorry, that should be TCM–Turner Classic Movies. TMC is another channel altogether (though some of your premium stations also show older movies once-in-a-while)
My local library has tons of them & they are free.
