You don’t.
I’ll post it anyway. Since it is the main reason why I came here, being a longtime lurker of several different forums.
This will end well.
I’m pretty sure that we don’t allow fanfic to be posted in any forum, because it’s a copyright violation, and we frown on that. I’d have to check with the other mods (technically, I’m an admin, but I’m mostly inactive these days), but if you post fanfic, don’t be surprised if it disappears.
If you post something that’s definitely your own work, it would go in Cafe Society…but don’t expect people to sing your praises unless you can actually produce quality work. It’s more likely that you’ll be ripped to shreds, either in CS or in the Pit.
Ok, I promise not to post fanfics.
I expect there are sites designed to accomodate this. Looks like www.fanfiction.net is one of them.
Why here?
There are sites for posting fiction, fanfic and other; this really isn’t one of them.
While we appreciate the creative inherent in most everyone, it’s not appropriate for you to post your individual forays into creative writing on this site.
There’s other sites in cyberspace more appropriate for that. This is also why god made blogs.
Don’t post it here.
Fanfic can be copyright violation, but not all of it is, else Neil Gaiman, Fred Saberhagen, Geraldine Brooks (Geraldine Brooks (writer) - Wikipedia ), and many fan fiction writers would be in trouble.
We do encourage people to share the creative work in Cafe Society, but it’s most commonly through links to their work, rather than simply posting here. And, of course, unlike one’s immediate family, the Straight Dope Family will not necessarily be effusively positive…
so, if you have a blog - post a link! and if you don’t, post asking how to start one.
There are fiction contests here on occasion, and they are great fun to participate in and read others’ work. I think this is the most recent anthology thread: SDMB Short Fiction Contest, May 2012 edition
Before you post anything on the Straight Dope, you should read carefully the Terms of Use/Privacy Policy (link at the bottom of every page):
We finally found a way for them to make money off of this place! They can publish Stainles Stan’s fanfic!
Actually I’m not into doing fan fics that much. I was thinking of posting an interactive story on Straight Dope. So I want to directly involve straightdopers here to see how the people here will respond to the content.
One problem I realised is that eventhough, the user control panel gives me an option to view pics anda avatars, I can’t post pics here.
That means if I were to to post fiction, it would be a mighty wall of text.
Be advised there is a 5,000 char limit on Private Messages and posts.
So, if you want to post a long story, you have to post a link to some web site.
It’s just not possible to post a novel or even a short story on this board.
It’s not designed to handle that.
What other forum site is a good community of writer (not spammers). And will allow me to post my stories on, preferably with pics.
I prefer A forum site with a big community that I can expect at least one response a day. I will need responses since I plan on making a interactive story.
I don’t like blogs because they don’t give me that sense of community, and blogs require a lot of advertising just to get a few views. If I wanted it to be kept private I would type it in my pc, and it wouldn’t be an interactive story.
I already tried gaia online, it is a very large site, but it divided into too many pieces. It lacks a well connected community and, I mostly was ignored (except for a few spammers)
Now this thread is not About This Message Board and I am moving it to Cafe Society, where perhaps it will get the kind of attention it needs.
Go ahead and post your fiction. There are short story contests from time to time in CS, and others have done it in MPSIMS. Trouble is, your just asking for destructive criticism.
