When the Americans get ticked at the upcoming election, they threaten to move to Canada. I was thinking, where do people in other countries threaten to go to if the election doesn’t go their way?
Florida and Arizona

I’ll tell you when I relocate there in a handful of months.
I don’t think I have ever heard a fellow Canadian say that they’ll leave the country if an election doesn’t go the way they want.
I’ve heard some of them say they’ll split up the country, though. Which is worse.
Well - I have often sworn that I will leave the country if Sheila Copps was elected Prime Minister.
Fortunately, that won’t ever happen.
You know, I didn’t even think of that. I’m so far removed from it now, and don’t get news from home much. I’m gonna have to spend more time at cbc.ca.
Really doesn’t matter, because no matter how much they bluster, they never leave!! That goes for disgruntled United Statesians as well as Canadians.
So disgruntled Canadians go where older Americans go? Chilling.
I’m with Ginger on this one. I haven’t heard an Aussie or Kiwi threaten to leave the country because they were unhappy with the outcome of an election.
Well, in Quebec they just threaten to start their own country.
…okay they’ve talked about it here in Alberta too.
hmmm… I’ve never thought about leavng, but Bermuda or New Zealand would be nice.
From what I’ve seen on the U.S. interstate highways over the years, it would appear that they purchase trailers (caravans), and roam the roads, in some sort of weird Hoser Diaspora.
I don’t know if the talk about it, or if it’s election results that prompt it, but apparently a fair number of Mexicans, Polish, and Chinese who are unhappy with their country of origin come to the US despite hardship and in many cases real danger.
Wildwood, New Jersey
Elections are usually in the summer or early fall, so although I would like to go skiing, I usually have to make do with canoeing or kayaking.
Thats not true. When I was up in BC a few months back (checking out places to live I might add) I met a fair amount of ex-americanos. They were quite happy with moving.
As for me, we are going through the process now. There are some licenses that we need and some loose ends in the states we need to wrap up, but after that we’re moving.
This time next year I’ll be posting here from there.
My reason for moving have less to do with any election and more to do with how the country is being run from both sides of the political fence. I also don’t feel my tax money and my daughters future tax money should pay for this “fool war”.
