Where do you find good news?

Are there any blogs, magazines, TV shows etc. where I can find good news? Anything will do: medical advances, other sciences, prosperity, human rights, etc.

I like Salon.com, personally.

Not to be argumentative, but I just went there on your suggestion, and found pretty much the same type of news that I find everywhere. I’m not knocking Salon, it might be great at what it does, but I couldn’t find anything at all optimistic.
Is there some link within Salon that I might have missed?

You do realize that the point of news is to talk about what’s unusual, right? Which is why newsrooms around the world focus on the bad, the strange, and the bizarre.

If you want medical advances or scientific advances, I’d check some specific journals, like Nature or something like that.

Scientific American prints long, detailed articles on scientific advances. Sports Illustrated does the same on sporting achievements. The journal Nature is in this general league, as well. On the more technical side, Slashdot reports about advances in computers and general technology.

It depends on what you want by way of good news.

Dave Barry’s Blog usually has some good news thrown into the mix.

I found a link to something via The Guardian called Spark, which will, apparently, someday, update. I’m not sure if it’s all that interesting, but it does print good stuff.

Does anyone remember that article about only printing good news? The only thing I remember from it is a headline which said something like, “Duke and Duchess of Someplace open hotel safe to find jewels still there”.

When I want to read about mankind’s accomplishments, I start with the** sports page.**
When I want to read about mankind’s failures, I start with the front page.

Sports reporting is generally about struggle and achievement. Randy Johnson pitched a perfect game at age 40! Wow!

Here is an article about paint that can eliminate nitrogen oxide from the atmosphere. Link

Who says watching paint dry isn’t exciting?

Oh, so you mean “good” as in positive and uplifting, not as in well-reported and substantiated.

Well, Yahoo has a whole category for such sites. But many of the sites seem to be somewhat religiously affiliated.

Excellent in terms of medicine and science. I was going to count the positive posts but stopped when I ran out of fingers. Thanks.

Now if I could find something equivalent about the economy or spread of democracy…
