I sleep in a meat locker, inside a side of beef. I like to pretend I’m Luke on Hoth.
Actually, a nice cool room, about 68ºF, with cotton sheets and a high thread count, a heavy knit blanket, then a comforter on top. I also use a Tempurpedic Pillow. Keeping a cool room allows me to shed some blanket if I get too warm. Now that I’m getting older, I run a little warm.
On a bed of the soil of my native land, in a virgin-silk lined casket of black oak from the Carpathian mountains. Preferably, in close proximity to my brides and a hulking manservant.
Failing that, a cool room with crisp sheets and a bed large enough to rollover without risking injury.
This is one of the little incompatibilities between my partner and me.
I like to sleep in a cool room, with the ceiling fan on low, and no blanket. My partner needs a warm room with as many blankets and comforters as possible. He also needs a bed that’s a foot longer than normal, but that’s not his fault.
Occasionally, I’ll cover myself with a thin sheet, but I’ll invariably kick it off after a few minutes. And it’s not unusual to be covered by two cats . . . which I love, except for the unwanted heat.
I used to have two or three heavy quilts and a very cold room. My fiance can’t handle that. So we’ve compromised and have one heavy quilt and a moderately warm room. I love feeling the weight of a few heavy blankets on me. I feel all cozy.
I’d heard of all-over pressure being good for kids on the autistic spectrum. One OT showed us something made with two big bedsheets sewn together stuffed with foam, that you’d roll the child up in; we had a weighted vest for a son for a while. And there’s Temple Grandin’s squeeze machine.
I guess it’s a good sensation for everyone!
It was cold here last night - down into the 40s. I’d put our heavy bedspread back on a few days ago (after being put away for the summer) and it was lovely feeling that weight all over.
I love a cool room and light blankets. Open window mandatory, love to hear the weather while I’m drifting off to sleep whether it’s rain or breezes, insects, birds, neighbors whatever.
Cold is evil, even when I’m awake. When I wake up cold, it takes me a good 30 minutes to stop shaking.
I made a pie before going bed (it’s low sugar and needs to gel in the fridge overnight). Opening the oven and getting that warm air blowing all over me was pure bliss.
I clicked “A cool room with a thick, heavy blanket(s),” but what I really mean is “A cool room with a top sheet or thin blanket and one of those huge comforters that doesn’t feel like it weighs anything.” So “heavy” isn’t really the point, but it’s a very different sensation than just a thin blanket or none at all.
I’m not autistic, but I can’t help but fantasize about sleeping underneath at least 10 heavy comforters. On flannel sheets, to boot! As it is, I wrap up in cotton sheets and a mere 2 heavy comforters, all whilst fully attired in pj’s and wool socks. And still feel cold once I drift off to sleep. By the time I wake up though I’ve inevitably kicked off the covers and the socks!
I’m surprised to hear how many people like to stick their feet out from under the covers. I’ve never met anyone IRL who confesses to needing that, except for me and my mom. How interesting!
I like a cool room with one down comforter and one quilt. In winter, I might add a down blanket. For me, sticking my feet out the end of the blankets seems to keep me from overheating.
