I don’t think there is a general board policy, but it seems that general sports threads (i.e. not Pits, GD or GQs) end up equally in Cafe Society and in MPSIMS. Where do you think they properly go? My opinion, Cafe Society, since sports seems to me to be primarily entertainment.
I seem to recall this topic coming up once before, and I tend to agree with you that Cafe Society makes the most sense. In all honesty, I don’t really care exactly where it goes, except that I’d like it to be in one place.
I think they need their own category.

Regardless of your feelings about any aspect of sports, it’s entertainment, and therefore belongs in Cafe Society.
Cafe Society by all means, unless we are talking about the Yankees. Then it’s The Pit.

The answers will be opinions all. Sports just doesn’t fit well with music, TV and books.

The answers to these questions will be opinions as well, but clearly belong in Cafe Society (else why have a Cafe Society?).
Although I’d be for distributing sports throughout the various forums as appropriate, too. I mean, when Roger Clemens does what Roger Clemens is inevitably going to do and rejoins the Pinstriped Armies of Hell, I’d like to be able to express my feelings about the situation in a way that isn’t really Cafe Society-friendly. But oh, well.
Great Debates. Seriously. I don’t go in there very often, so they won’t bug me. Put gun threads and American Idol threads in there too… and maybe make the whole forum invisible.
Why not have a Sports category here? We have a Cafe Society area for discussions of movies and books and such. I don’t recall anyone saying that should be on another message board.
There are no good sports message boards on the Internet. Not that I’ve ever seen, anyway. What there are are just brutal, absolute cesspits of idiocy. A Sports category on the Dope would be immensely valuable to sports fans like yours truly. I’d pay more for that.

I think baseball-fever.com is pretty decent. The stadium category has some great photos anyway.
The SDMB is aimed at an intellectual audience… whilst there are plenty of smart people who enjoy sports, the reality is that there are an infinite number of places you can discuss sports (most of the Western World, basically), and not many like the SDMB. Besides, it’d all be American sports stuff anyway, and of little interest to those of us outside the US.
Like most things sport related IMHO.

I’ll agree with this. I found a group of hockey fans that posted on IIRC, CNNSI. After a time they ditched all of us and we moved to a few diffent host severs for a while. At first everyone was okay but dickish behaviour started taking over.
At one point moderators were used but the worst penalty they handed out was a 3 day suspension. Needless to say things got worse. I can’t remember what the final straw was, but I went back and deleted every post of mine that I could find and left without looking back.
I would also vote for a separate Sports section!
