Remoteness is a relative. Given that it’s a magical world, Godric’s Hollow could be in northern Surrey.
I’m not saying it is, just that it could be… The West Country makes the most sense location-wise.
I don’t see Aunt Petunia ever being reconciled to one of her blood kin going to Hogwarts. Unless I missed HP8–the Metamorphosis of Petunia Evans… I’d like to think that Tuny and Harry reconciled later in life, but I doubt it. Dudley no doubt went on to sell drills like his dad.
What I’d like to have seen is a situation where Draco and Harry are forced to work together and through that come to an understanding. There was some of that in the books, but not a lot.
In Harry’s world no one has to live in London to work in London. Mr. Weasley works in London and aparates daily from The Burrow to get there. The feeling I got from all the floo powder and aparating and all that was that you could just choose a home where ever you liked and work any place else you wanted.
Until the revelations in Book 7, I’d have agreed with you. However, given that Petunia desperately wanted to go to Hogwarts, and was bitterly disappointed to discover that she couldn’t, I think she might well be delighted that her granddaughter was able to go. It would, in some fashion, make up for it.
My original theory, before book 7, was that Petunia was in fact offered a place at Hogwarts, and was horrified at the idea. Under this theory, she would have been a “voluntary” Squibb. In that case, she would be horrified at her granddaughter being accepted. But that’s not what happened.
In any case, it’s a good thing Vernon didn’t live to see it.
Well, she spent her entire adult (and teen) life disparaging and sneering at magical folk as “freaks”. Her only blood relative, Harry, was treated very badly by her. IOW, she let her rejection by AD color her entire perception of the magical world. I doubt she’d be happy about a grandchild attending, unless she did some hard soul seeking and experienced some personal growth. Unlike Vernon, I think Petunia had it in her to do so, we just never get to hear her story.
Well, I guess it could be, but Godric’s Hollow is a village. There aren’t any villages in the suburbs of London. Guess it depends what you mean by ‘suburb.’
