Where does the opening scene to "The Blob" take place?

I have a test in microbiology tomorrow and the professor said that he will give extra credit to anyone that finds out where the opening scene to the movie “The Blob” takes place. I have never seen it but I figured that someone here would know. Thanks in advance.

The Kansas opening scenes are in sepia-tone, while the body of the film is in full colour.

Of course this applies to the Blob (1958)

There also was a 1988 Blob (not as good, but nonetheless a movie with the exact same name). Here’s the filming locations for that one.

IIRC, the movie opens in space as the Blob is transported to Earth by by a crashing meteorite.

So, I would say the answer would be, “The first scene takes place in outer space”.

[slight hijack] Fun factoid: the campy theme song “The Blob” was penned by none other than Burt Bacharach, performed by “The Five Blobs,” and is on Disc One of the (Rhino) Burt Bacharach box set. [/sh]

If you can’t get a definitive answer to the geography question, it can’t hurt to toss this out and fish for alternative extra credit. Especially if you play a MP3 of it in class… :cool:
