Big Pharma and the insurance industry are happy about that, I’m sure. Love to know how he proposes to pay for those grants…with his tax cut, perhaps? It’d probably work in the Donald’s fantasy world.
So Trump’s admiration for Putin and his warm feelings toward Russia seem to be connected back to his long standing ambitions to build a Trump tower in Moscow and the fact that lots of investors in his various real estate projects are Russian.
So its basically “stop putting sanctions on Russia, it’s bad for business, my business specifically”. So yeah we know that Trump is in favour of putting aside all human rights and geopolitical issues when it hurts his bottom line. That’s an issue you can count on him to be consistent with, so thats something…
On the environment, yes, Ronnie was quite something. I give you his one-time Secretary of the Interior, James G. Watt, whose name is easy to remember because of how his head resembles a light bulb. This is the guy who had talent on his coal commission in the form of “a black, a woman, two Jews and a cripple”; the guy who vowed that “we will mine more, drill more, cut more timber” and “… occupy the land until Jesus returns” and was voted by TIME magazine one of the ten worst Cabinet secretaries in history. In a fitting conclusion to another inspiring Republican story, he was later indicted on 25 counts of felony perjury and obstruction of justice.
Still, the current crop of craziness has been building in recent decades and hit new heights when someone named “Palin” became the VP candidate on the Republican ticket running against Obama, then blew a gasket and boiled over when Barry “Hussein” Obama actually got elected. And now Trump is the presumptive nominee! The entertainment just keeps on coming!
I don’t think winner-worship has a chance against his comical stupidity and offensive bigotry. The general voter population is not the Republican primary demographic.
Trump’s position on the polls: Trump is winning.
Trump’s position on America: He’s gonna make it great again.
Trump’s position on economics: His bank account has more zeroes than any other candidate’s.
Trump’s position on women: Women love Donald Trump.
Trump’s position on Mexican immigration: Trump taco bowls are the best.
Trump’s position on infrastructure: Trump-branded properties are the classiest lodgings available.
Trump’s position on education: Donald Trump is the smartest guy there is.
Trump’s position on gays: Gays love Donald Trump. (But not in that way. That’s disgusting.)
Some of Trump’s health care reform is just boilerplate conservative talking points like ‘let insurers sell across state lines’, which just means that insurance companies will all do what credit card companies did, and move to the handful of states with the fewest consumer protections. That and medicaid block grants and ‘repeal obamacare’, another talking point.
Other parts of his health reform aren’t bad. He wants to make prices transparent, and give people more ability to buy pharmaceuticals from overseas. Both of those are good ideas.
He mentions that but it drifts from health care to other areas of his platform. He says that the American health care system is burdened by illegal immigrants - so by kicking all of the illegal immigrants out of the country, President Trump will be freeing up money in the health care system.
And tax cuts create jobs. So people will have more jobs which means they’ll have more money. So there’ll be more money out there.
The idea of buying pharmaceuticals from overseas suffers from the same problem that you mentioned regarding insurance. It encourages companies to find countries with lax approval policies and manufacturing regulations so they can produce drugs cheaply - while still being able to turn around and sell those drugs at high prices in the American market.
Here is the latest from Fearless Leader.
During the ACA fight, the GOP floated their bill for “reform”. The part about selling insurance across state lines included a definition of state that included the Northern Mariana Islands, a US Commonwealth. The insurance regulatory agency there consisted of one person. Or would have if anyone had been appointed to the position. Wonder how many health insurance companies would have been registered with HQ in Saipan by the end of the year if that had passed.
And I suppose those illegal immigrants will just kick themselves out. Y’know, costs money. Show me a respected economist who agrees (hint: Trump is not one of them).
Pure fantasy. Trickle-down economics was disproven decades ago.
Well, of course it’s nonsense. But what upsets me is how many people are unaware it exists. A lot of the people who oppose Trump seem to have as little information about him as the people who support him do. People hate him for reasons that are just as superficial as the reasons people love him.
