I downloaded a large media file recently, which was packaged as a series of archive files (.rar). After downloading, I opened the first part in IZArc and hastily double-clicked on the single contained file. The file was unpacked and automatically opened in the media player. What happened to the file after I closed the player, and where is/was it ?temporarily? stored?
You might find the data in C:\Documents and Settings(your user name)\Local Settings\Temp
To me it seems very stupid to bury the Temp directory so deep because it gets full of temporary files (it shouldn’t but does.) Right now I’ve got 221 files in mine, but I just cleaned it out last week. As a rule of thumb I sort the directory by date and delete everything that doesn’t have today’s date on it.
I never remember, so I open a command window and do this:
cd %temp%
From there, I use MS-DOS commands to clean up whatever needs cleaning.
So, why are you so concerned about where that temporary file was written ?
It’s a few hundred MB in size, and the way my HDD is partitioned, the C partition is limited in size. Rather not get a ‘low drive space’ msg and not know where to look. Sorry, nothing sinister or embarassing. Maybe next time.
