I’m trying to find some files, and I don’t seem to have ‘All My Files’. The icon in Finder that indicated ‘All My Files’ on my other computer is ‘Recents’ on this one.
Thanks. That kind of works. Very clunky since you have to define everything, and it won’t show folders. I’m wondering if I just don’t have the pics on this computer. I think the other computer is dead. Can I pull stuff off of the remote backup drive?
I certainly hope so, or it’s not much of a backup…
Do you know the names of the files? You can just do a Finder search.
No, I generally just left the names as they came from the camera unless I wanted to use the photo. With All My Files I could just scroll through the pics to see what they were.
So my old computer seems to be dead. At least, I can’t get it started. I’m pretty sure it’s the graphics chip. Apple can’t fix it. There’s a place in New York that’s famous for fixing Macs, and they specifically say on their page that they won’t fix MacBook Pros from 2010/2011 with that chip.
I restored the old computer a couple of times from the remote backup drive. I’m guessing I can use the same drive for the new computer and still keep the old files. In any case, I’ll plug in the drive in the next couple of days to see if I can find the photos I want.
You can remove the hard drive from the old computer and copy the data off of it.
It’s actually pretty easy with that machine - just takes a tiny Phillips screwdriver.
You will need a USB to SATA adapter to get the drive to talk.
