Where is this thread when I need it?

My fiance’s birthday is at the end of March. He has been talking about wanting to build his own remote controlled car so I am thinking that a kit might be a good present. Or I was thinking that until I started looking online for car kits. It seems to me that one has to be a damn mechanic to understand all the crap that goes with these kits and since I know nothing about cars it stands to reason that I know nothing about RC cars.

If anyone could instruct me on what to look for I would be very appreciative. I just want a basic kit for some cool looking car that is not going to break my bank account.

My fiance is very good with mechanics and electronics so he should be able to put together any kind of kit. Thanks.

Try Horizon Hobby. I don’t know much about the R/C world, because I’m into trains. Horizon is one of the biggest distributors around, however.
