Where is The Office "spin-off" thread?

A couple weeks ago I read that Amy Poehler was signed and in researching it a little found the following:

  • NBC wanted a spin-off
  • the main creative guy didn’t
  • something is supposed to be ready for after the Super Bowl
  • Michael Scott will appear in the first episode (or was it Steve Carrell?)

Conjecture away…

I have no cite, but I’ve been hearing lately it’s not an Office spin-off anymore, just another show with some behind the scenes people in common.

Damn, I was looking forward to a mockumentary of life in the Federal prison system.

Here’s what Entertainment Weekly has to say about it.

Non Office Spin-off

Why does NBC think Amy Poehler is funny? And who on earth would they spin off? The characters are great, but I don’t see any Fraisers in there.

Did you read the article? It’s not a spin-off. I also don’t think Frasier seemed like a great idea at the time. I remember there being predictions it was the next “AfterMASH” before it aired.

I do agree that Amy Poehler is not funny, though. Her husband is far funnier.

Ya…I’m not sure. I’ll see where they take Poehler though because besides Carrell they took totally unknowns and made one damn funny show before. I’m going to trust them a little bit.

Rainn Wilson was an unknown? I guess I buy that in the sense that most Americans did not know him, but his work on Six Feet Under made him a little more than an “unknown.” Right?

Heard him on “Fresh Air” yesterday; he said that was his breakthrough role in terms of getting better known in the business.

Amy Poehler is funny as hell with the right material. Really liked her in “The Upright Citizen’s Brigade”.

Anybody know what the latest is?

Is Steve Carrell still in the premiere and as Michael Scott or another character?

If as MS, how might that character fit into a non-Office show?
