I would watch it… Would you?
I wonder if The Office will suffer for one of their main character’s leaving, again.

Again? (Parks and Rec was originally built as a spinoff featuring Karen Filippelli’s move to government work).
That said, there’s been at least a dozen episodes that include extended scenes at Schrute Farms. But creating a whole show around it just seems ridiculous. I think an Office insider was just fucking with the reporter and seeing if he’d post it.
I’m glad they did.
I don’t know… I would like to see it before calling it ridiculous. I would love to see more of Mose.
That would be my concern. Can The Office succeed without Michael and Dwight? Perhaps if they build the other characters and add more. But one of my favorite bits of the show are the cold opens showing how Jim pranks Dwight.
Yes, this will be missed. Also, he’s the best salesperson… and owns the building.
I love Dwight…but not as a lead. This sounds like a really bad idea.
I can barely tolerate Dwight in small doses on The Office. I’d give it a try, though.
Maybe it isn’t true:
http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2012/01/26/is-nbc-developing-an-office-spinoff-for-rainn-wilson/
“Rainn Wilson himself appears to be calming down any excitement about the rumored spinoff, as he tweeted Wednesday, ‘Don’t believe everything you read in the press, OK?’”
It was on Yahoo’s front page. But I don’t know if it’s a done deal.
This sounds like when they spun Fish off Barney Miller.
It could work, Dwight is a strong character and I think Rainn Wilson is a strong enough actor to lead in a situation like this. The only thing I see that would be an issue is if there is enough material to write a sitcom about a beet farm/ bed and breakfast. The audience would need a normal character to relate to, I presume, but not someone who would point and say “haw that’s weird” every week.
I’ll watch the first episode out of curiosity. Unless it’s cleverer than the way Dwight is portrayed in The Office, I don’t think it’s going to work. The Dwight character’s effectiveness depends so much on the supporting cast. It’d be hard to stomach seeing the quirky (and that’s putting it mildly) Dwight for an entire episode week after week if it’s only about him and Mose. As to the impact on The Office, I think this is a sign that The Office is heading to a deserved end. The Andy episodes are mostly tepid, but the show was already showing its weariness last season before Carell left.
Well, it worked for Newhart for 8 years, but I guess Bob was the “straightman” on that one. Dwight is more like George and the two Darryl’s. I can certainly see plenty of directions to go with Dwight’s currently developed character and plenty of material, in fact it would probably be a very unique and quirky :translate: funny and interesting show. I’d certainly watch because he’s my favorite office character.
The best way to put it is that it could be Frasier…or it could be Joey.
Maybe the show will be about Dwight launching a political career.
My guess is that they will tone down the Dwight character so that he is the straight man, and Mose and the other relatives are the weird ones.
Speaking of Newhart, they should get Bob Newhart to play Dwight’s grandfather. I’d love to see his deadpan takes on a one camera show.
The one held in an American POW camp?
O wouldn’t want to hobble him with an accent.
Eh, that’s just an opportunity. He could have had his accent “erased” by an “unfortunate beet farming accident”… Or, better yet, he could be a guest.
What I’ve always found even more strange and uncanny is that Creed resembles Dwight in both appearance and mannerisms in this video of one of his performances with the Grass Roots (starting at 1:29).
Just think of what a Creed spin-off would be like…
I’m still skeptical about the legitimacy of this news.
