The would-be pilot for Dwight’s spinoff is airing tonight.
I think this was the worst episode of The Office I’ve ever seen.
I’m at a loss for where to start, so I’ll begin with what I felt was the most positive thing to come out of this episode; A hardy belly laugh when Dwight took the gun, kicked open the coffen, and shot into it. I’ll admit that was pretty funny. And that was the highlight of the show.
Ok, so this is obviously a mash-up of ‘The Farm’s’ failed, (and condensed), pilot and a really bad plot involving Packer.
‘The Farm’ might not have been a bad show. The problem is that it’s TV pilots have the burden of establishing everything from scratch; the characters, the settings and circumstances… and this was a mutilated version of that.
I like the idea of the whole office getting stoned after they all collectively eat something, at least it would be more interesting than the whole office buzzed on espresso… but this wasn’t funny at all. Any episode with Packer in it has to be handled with care too, this was rotten.
Uh, and the cold open too?
Just horrible.
You got there before me… Sorry mods.

Yeah, this was really bad. It did make me want to see the actual pilot though. I think Dwight’s siblings are supposed to be just as weird as him, but in completely different ways. I loved the Schrute method of making sure nobody was buried alive. It sucks we didn’t get to see Angela stoned.
That new show would have sucked gigantic red raw donkey dick.
That the cup cakes were tampered with was beyond obvious from the very start.
That was awful.
Yuuuuuup. What used to be my favorite show keeps finding new ways to get worse.
Does anyone remember when lots of posters used to say “the writers are too smart for that.” It’s been a loooong time since I’ve heard that line.
An unfocused rudderless mess this show has turned into.
Ugh.

I agree with the others posts. I’m glad the pilot wasn’t picked up.
I’m assuming Dwight’s brother and sister and some of the other new characters would’ve been the regular cast of the show? Because they all came across to me as very generic and not compelling or interesting in the least.
I was waiting for the open to cut to Dwight doing a talking head where he would be laughing about getting to throw dirt on his coworkers and that it actually wasn’t tradition.
Agree, pretty poor show all together. Seemed like a filler episode or something.
I was hoping the twist would be that Dwight’s brother was the anti-Dwight or a clone of Jim. But his siblings were as odd as him so there was no type of tension or conflict to play off of. Without Oscar as the straight man (ha) it would have really fell flat.
I saw it again… I wish we saw the whole pilot episode, like alphaboi867 said. ‘The Farm’ might not have been a bad show… it’s just that this episode was mutilated.
Why didn’t Angela get invited to the funeral? last time we watched she was the one taking care of the old lady and she and Dwight were getting along.
Maybe it’s because I wasn’t aware that the farm scenes were pieces of a pilot, but I liked them. It’s always nice seeing Dwight beyond caricature. I enjoyed his interactions with his nephew, I liked the little musical bit at the end, and I really liked Dwight calling “it” for taking over the farm. It was nice.
The cupcake stuff was retarded, though Kevin taking it from Pam at the end was pretty funny.
Sounds like I’m in the minority, but I would have watched the spinoff, based on this episode. I’m not sure his siblings were as odd as Dwight. His sister actually seemed kind of normal. With some time, it might have turned into something.
I have not seen an episode of my once-favorite show in a couple of years, just happened to wander into this thread.
So…who died? Packer? How?
And the spiked snacks sounds like a blatant rip off of a classic Barney Miller episode.
mmm
Some lady related to Dwight…aunt I think. She was in one episode a few weeks back. I think that was it.
The concept of the farm had potential but none of the characters or actors they introduced/used did anything for me. Even the little kid.
Not really. Some of the cupcakes had laxatives in them and it was done by a former co-worker for revenge. Besides, Barney Miller was hardly the first to use this trope although maybe the first to use baked goods instead of spiked punch or something.
I liked both Dwight’s sister and his new beau, although I wish I could place where I’ve seen them before; IMDB was no help. I see IMDB also lists them being in the TV Movie The Farm, about the Shrute farm, but scant details on this being a pilot episode or a stand-alone production. With them in the cast, I might watch that as a follow-on series, especially if they include the “hillbilly” music on a regular basis (the tuba was a hoot!)
Dwight’s sister was in Roswell.
