The Office (02.01.07)

No thread yet? Huh. All in all I thought it was not as good as last week. It seemed more disjointed than usual.

Ben Franklin was awesome though. Who knew he was so sketchy?

“I don’t care what Jim says, that’s not the real Benjamin Franklin. I’m 99% sure.”

One of the most awesome Dwight lines ever.

I loved the first 20 minutes of the show and felt really let down by the last 10. I didn’t find the parts with the stripper funny. A weird episode, I think I need to rewatch it to get a better feeling for it.

Kind of an odd episode. Only three really funny moments:

  • Meredith screaming at Angela for not wanting a male stripper in the office.

  • Michael and Ryan in the sex shop with everything being blurred out.

  • The already mentioned line from Dwight about Ben Franklin.

Yeah, I’d say that was a weak episode. But probably because the last two were so good and also had a lot to do with the story arc (IIRC). This one seems like a transitional episode.

“Ben Franklin just tied a cherry stem into a knot with his tongue!”
“Well, that’s because I am a Renaissance man!”

The whole Ben Franklin bit was AWESOME.

That was probably my least favorite office episode of all time. Meh.

Where the hell was Oscar?

I couldn’t make out what Ryan said to Kelly about whether or not he thought the stripper was hot.

It went something like this:

Kelly: Was she hot?
Ryan: Kelly, please don’t do this.
Kelly: Do what?
Ryan: You know exactly what you’re doing.

I knew it was all downhill once Todd Packer entered the picture.

He’s not funny and just sucks the air out of the show. I detest the episode in the 2nd season that featured him prominently.

Mindy wrote this episode… she’s written all the sub-par episodes… Pattern?

Man, I came here to share in the joy, but it looks like I’m the only one who really enjoyed this episode. I was cracking up the entire time.

“Are you nearsighted or farsighted?”

“I am both. That’s why I invented the Bifocals.”

“AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH!!!”

Least funny episode this season. I was doing the “laughing because I* want* it to be funny” thing for most of the show.

I did, however, like Jim’s quick thinking about asking for a blonde stripper so he didn’t have to choose between Karen (brunette) or Pam (redhead).

Anyone else think Pam looked a little different this week? Her face seemed a bit fuller, don’t know if it was the hairstyle or makeup or what. Maybe just me.

She sounded like she had a cold. Maybe she was puffy from that.

Jenna Fischer (Pam) was deadly sick when this episode was filmed.

Kinda cool cause it gives those of us who read her blog the chance to experience the time lag between filming and when the shows air (she complained about that cold months ago).

I thought the only funny moment was in the beginning when Michael was shooting the video for his “son”, and was demonstrating how to remove a woman’s bra. From Dwight.

(paraphrasing) “You just put your hand in here and it should… break… or something. [looks at camera] You get the idea.”

The rest of it was sort of bizarre, and not in a funny way.

Second with the Oscar.

And what happened to Andy?

I agree that the pacing was a bit odd, or something. But I still had to pause it several times to laugh.

I thought the other episode written by Mindy Kaling, “The Injury,” was a riot - one of the best. And this one had a reference, which was pause-worthy:

(Michael grilling outdoors on a Foreman grill)
Ryan: Is this the grill you cooked your foot on?
Michael: No. . . . Yes.
Ryan: (noises and gestures of disgust)
Micheal: I got most of the foot off it!

I also liked Pam’s idiotic rambling about sleep. I know I’ve been there, blabbing on, feeling stupid, yet unable to stop until I trail off incoherently. Especially considering she was sick, she did a great job.

Oh, and speaking of lag, I recently found out Joss Whedon has directed an episode - sweet! I guess it’ll be a couple months before we see it though.

He even pretended it was still Pam. I wonder where the bra came from?
