The Office (02.01.07)

Good point, especially now that he’s been made a regular.

Well, shit. It’s like Cousin Oliver’s psychotic uncle is taking up permanent residence.

I’m not a big fan of Helms, but seeing Andy’s eventual flameout would have made his presence tolerable. Now that it’s not going to happen…

Well, shit.

If you watch the producer’s cut of the last episode that featured Andy, you’d learn

that Andy was sent to a ten-week anger management course, that he felt he could complete in five.

Andy is in anger management training for eight weeks. I’m assuming Helms was doing a movie or something.

I thought the bit with Michael trying to show how to jump-start a car was hilarious. Just connect the cables to any part of the engine.

Pam’s bumbling ramble about sleep was such an uncomfortable bit of dissembling to pathetically try to keep Jim and Karen from boinking, it was hilarious.

I agree with most people that the episode was weak. But Jenna Fisher is great. I was cringing when she was talking to Jim and especially during her conversation with Karen. Yikes, that was uncomfortable to watch.

Since Chefguy already mentioned it, I’m not spoilering my post.

That seems like a big thing to leave out of the show, since it’s leaving most viewers wondering where Andy is. That doesn’t make sense to me. Why not at least put it at the very end of the show as the final scene.

Yeah, it kind of pisses me off that you have to watch the director’s cut to know that. I’m not into this whole, go on the Internet and rewatch the show or go search for clues to the plot thing. I just want to watch the show. Unfortunately it seems like more shows are pulling this kind of crap now.

“SHUT UP, ANGELA!”

That and the exchange between Ryan and Michael over the grill were reallythe only two really good parts, IMO. Otherwise, I agree with the sentiment about it being uneven. I especially thought the part with Pam’s Ex going on about Pam’s art was strange. I understand the point, but it just seemed forced to me.

She wrote that one too? I take back my earlier comment. “the Injury” is probably one of my favorite episodes.

I was thinking of “Diwali” which was not a good episode and I swear another episode last season that wasnt that good.

I wholeheartedly agree! I didn’t like Chris Finch in the British version, and I detest Todd Packer on our version. If anything, Packer is even more annoying, offensive, and unfunny than Finchy.

Why couldn’t he be decapitated by a truck?

The Office often skirts the boundaries of credulity, but I give it a pass, but last night seemed to throw it all out the window. Michael’s a buffoon and a clod, but even he wouldn’t hire strippers to come to the office. I didn’t see Toby all night, and that’s probably because they knew he would squash the idea like a bug. So this premise was more contrived than any I can recall, and that completely lost it for me.

I’m glad Jim’s back with Karen, but I hope they don’t milk the whole back-&-forth/back-&-forth thing too much. Pam was trying too hard, and while JF did a great job acting the part, it also seemed like they were pounding the audience over the head with the scenario (ditto yet another idiotic phone conversation between Michael & Jan).

Inevitably, the funniest parts were all with Dwight: Dwight shaking his head as Michael jumps the car, Dwight assessing the “dancer”, Dwight trying to trip up Ben Franklin (though, again, the “99% sure”? Please! Dwight’s a sycophantic, anti-social dolt, but he’s not a grade-A moron).

Angela slyly spitting the champagne back was good, too (plus Creed eating the manmeat).

I love this show but this was probably the worst one I’ve seen; I’m assuming it was just an off-day.

“No tats…tats…of course I want…”

Poor Jim, though, that they’ve been talking and not boinking.

Great episode for me. I thought the dialog was terrific. Favorite line right out of the gate:

“Last night, I had an epiphery.”

Not one of my favorite episodes, but all of the Ben Franklin stuff was priceless. Especially this exchange.

BF impersonator: I was never president.

Michael (whispering): But Ben Franklin was.

Also, the parts where Dwight was trying to catch the impersonator with Franklin trivia.

I agree that the episode was a little less good than some, but still had me laughing a ton, particularly the entire Ben Franklin situation. That’s just classic Jim.

Does anyone know the actor who played Ben Franklin? He looked framiliar but IMDb and other sources don’t have that updated yet…

Mindy also wrote “The Dundies”, which was one of the best episodes ever, “Take Your Daughter To Work Day”, and “Hot Girl” (from Season 1). Aside from last night’s episode, I’ve always found myself looking forward to her eps because they seem to be consistently funny.

Last night…I just kept drifting. I liked the episode, I just didn’t LOVE it.

Andrew Daly from MadTV.

The producers’ cut is well-worth the time. Some of the stuff that was left out of the broadcast is hysterical.

Ah, that’s right. I thought he looked framiliar.

Well, I watched it again today for the third time and still laughed aloud. Then I watched The War at Home for comparison purposes. Then I thought, why the hell isn’t Arrested Development still on?
