Where is the scam?

I had a phone call this afternoon; the caller ID said it was originating in Kingston, Jamaica.

The caller said I won some kind of drawing, and they were trying to confirm I was where I was so a courier could deliver my $750K cashier’s check tomorrow.

They did not ask for an address.

They did not ask for a bank account.

They did not ask for any identifying information at all.

I know this is a scam, but where is it?

BTW, if I get a knock on the door tomorrow (a holiday), I’m answering with my 12 gauge in hand.

I traced that call for you, and it’s coming from INSIDE THE HOUSE!

Run now, if you still can!

Never mind the dog. Beware of owner!
I did a bit of Google-Fu. There is a Jamaican scam. Their MO is to try to entice you to call back on the caller ID number to verify a legit call. Once you’ve called back, the usual scam rules apply. Send $200 to get a million, account theft, etc.

In a new wrinkle, some even find your info on a service like Spokeo and use it to extort money the old fashioned way: ‘We know where you live, and if you don’t send us bucks, we’ll kill you.’ Hell of a long way from Montego Bay (where the scams originate) to my place, too…
