Where is this scene from?

Black and white film. Dennis Hopper and Bruno Ganz (I think) on a boat on a river, with reeds. I was absolutely sure this was from Wenders’ ‘The American Friend’ But I just watched it and the film’s in colour and there’s no such scene.

Two men, in a boat, on a river, with reeds, black and white… help!

Are you sure it’s a scene (as in, you saw a whole clip), and not just B&W behind-the scenes still shots, like thesefrom a magazine?

Did this also entail tangerine trees and marmalade skies?

I remember this scene clearly. :frowning:

 I thought of that line as I was writing the question…but no…

True fact: Dennis Hopper did so many drugs from 1968 to 1978, you could get a contact high just from watching one of his movies.

I just checked Hopper’s IMDB listing. He made five black and white movies: Key Witness (1960) (a crime thriller about bikers); Night Tide (1961) (a horror movie about a mermaid); Tarzan and Jane Regained… Sort of (1964) and The Thirteen Most Beautiful Boys (1964) (which were Andy Warhol films); and The Sorceror’s Apprentice (1977) (a political comedy). It’s also possible you’re thinking of an episode of a TV series or that you were watching a color movie on a black and white TV.

Maybe it wasn’t Dennis Hopper?

Interesting point about the TV. Hm.

Two men, a boat, river, reeds, a B&W film which I was convinced was Wender’s, but maybe not…they’re floating along in quiet friendship…

This is killing me…I remember CLEAR as daylight something which may not exist. :o

Are you sure, because if it was actually Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn, odds are you were watching The African Queen.

Oh, wait, that was in colour. Never mind.

I’m going to e-mail him…or rather his office…

Is anyone else reminded of that alternate ending to Big?

Men … a swampy river … Deliverance!

I’m reading that thread now. Hilarious.

I hope Wim Wenders answers me. This is crazy making.

It is one of my favorite threads of all time. Every time it gets resurrected, just seeing it in the new posts list gives me a chuckle.

I hope you hear from Wenders.
