Yup, it’s time to start thinking about the annual Big Vacation. I’m trying to find places that I haven’t necessarily been before, and maybe something I hadn’t thought of. Here’s the requirements, in order of importance:
1 - has to be within about a 10 to 12 hour flight time of Denver, CO. I’m talking total time from the time I get on the first flight to the time I get off at my destination. Australia would be nice, but not for only a week.
2 - I can only get maybe 5 to 7 days off work, so I’m limited to a week or ten days of total vacation. I’m not the type to do 10 countries in 5 days, so keep things reasonable. I’m not going to drive from Montreal to Vancouver, no matter how cool it is.
3 - I’m thinking something cool and out of the way is on the agenda for this year. Last year, we went to Hawaii, which is very nice, but not “out of the way” exactly. I’m looking for destinations that I may not have heard of before.
Well, none of these is out of the way, but I’ll post them for your perusal anyhow.
British Isles. 4 Countries in one! You can go to some out of the way places in the UK, and there’s always plenty to see and explore. And they have lovely B&Bs that are usually cheaper than hotels.
Savannah, GA. That’s where I’ll be going on my honeymoon. Not your typical vacation spot, and pretty relaxing from what I hear. Watch out for the hurricaines, though.
Nantucket Island, MA. We looked at that for our honeymoon, too, but was told it’s pretty cold in October. But it looks like so much fun! You can also visit other islands in the area, and Cape Cod. I’m still planning on getting there sometime.
Caveat: I haven’t actually been to Savannah or Nantucket. So don’t take my word for these.
