Where should I put "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

This is how I organize my CDs:

Pop music: Alpha by artist or group, then chronological within artist or group.

Classical: Alpha by composer.

Jazz: Never buy it in the first place.

Compilations: Alpha by title.

Soundtracks: Alpha by the movie/play/TV show’s title.

Of course, I ignore articles such as “the,” “a,” “an.”

I’ve had the soundtrack to “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” in my player for a few months now, and am finally finished listening to it and will put it away. But where? It might seem obvious to put it under “O,” but hang on: the word “O” in the title is an archaic, little-used but still valid article, so maybe I should put it under “B.”

But I don’t know. Does the unusualness of the word “O” merit its retention at the front of the title, or not? I seek DopeAdvice[sup]tm[/sup].

Nobody come in here and tell me just to put it where I can find it. That is, of course, Not The Point.

The Point™ would be that the ‘O’ is an integral part of the title so put it in the ‘O’ section. After ‘O A’, yet before ‘O C.’

I am a professional indexer, so I’ll chime in here with my advice. I would catalogue it under “O”. Why? Because it’s not technically an article, which are the only words that get ignored when alphabetizing. (Well, except for subentries, but we’re not talking about indexes, so I won’t go off on that tangent.) “O” is an ejaculation or something like that. (Wow, that sounds sort of… nasty.)

So, because it is not an article such as “a”, “an”, or “the”, I would alphabetize “O” as a regular word, and put the CD into the “O” section.

The Point™ should be filed under N for Nilsson.

Ach… roundhead.
