The other day, I decided to go for a run. I took out my heart rate monitor, only to discover that the batteries had finally run out after 3 years of use. To ensure that this particular monitor stays watertight, it had to be returned to the manufacturer for battery replacements. I filled out the forms, put it in a box, called FedEx for a pickup, and put the box on the porch like I do every time I need to ship stuff out. Hubby and I have a home business, so although we don’t ship every day, it’s not uncommon for us to have FedEx pickups at our house.
A couple hours later, I went to get the mail. I noticed the box was gone. “Hmm…” I think, “FedEx picked it up pretty early today. Normally they don’t come until 4 or 5.” I didn’t think anything more of it, until about 4:30 when the doorbell rang. It was the FedEx guy, looking for the package.
“Um, I thought it was picked up earlier today.”
“No,” he says, “I’ll check the records, but I’m the only one who would have picked it up.”
He checks. FedEx does not have my package.
I wonder if the post office has it. I call there - yes, our carrier has returned from his route. No, they have no FedEx package. He says if they do have it, it’ll show up by 7pm, and he’d call me. That was yesterday. No call.
So where the @#$@# is my package? I’m really hoping the mailman picked it up, and it wasn’t found because it’s in a box, not in the standard FedEx packaging. Is it possible that it slipped through the post office, and will someday be returned for me for insufficient postage? Where else could it be?
I suppose that someone could have lifted it off our front porch. But we’ve sent packages out many, many times, and have not had a problem. And who steals stuff between the hours of 9 and 11 on a Wednesday morning? We have several hundred dollars worth of patio furniture, lovely plants, and some wall hangings that could easily be stolen - why not take those, if you’re going to steal something?
Where the @#$#@ is my package?
