As I write there are 12,257 members associated with the Board. Seems to me like only yesterday that we passed the 10,000 mark but, at a guess, it was maybe 3 months ago.
If that’s right, the Board is gaining new members at the rate of *about *100 per week (or 14 a day, if you like).
I was curious to know where online the StraightDope places banner ads and whether those ads are targeted at a particular market. We seem to be attracting a lot of teens - although it might just be that they just have a higher profile – and I wondered whether there was some overriding cunning recruitment policy at play.
I found my way to the 'Dope from a link at http://www.sexualrecords.com I don’t know if the link is still there or not.
I also have a link to the 'Dope on my webpage, though I haven’t gotten around to putting up the “Official Linking Banner” yet.
And I know from personal experience that several other 'Dopers have links on their pages, as well. The 'Dope gets a LOT of free advertising. In fact, I’m considering putting up a whole section on my page about the amazingness of the SDMB… but judging by my laziness, that’s not gonna happen any time soon.
Well, I’m new, let me tell you how I got here. I first found this site via the alt.folklore.urban newsgroup awhile back. I didn’t start reading the message boards until around Christmas time, though.
I’ve read Cecil for about 12 years now. I have all the books, read the column all the time. I missed a few weeks of the Reader, so I went online to catch up, and found the message boards.
It’s been a blast so far. I’m sorry for the mistakes I’ve made in posting, but trust me…I DID lurk for a good two weeks before becoming a member.
…we’re currently listed (and I don’t know for how long this has been true) on http://www.bored.com as a site to visit. I believe that’s where this server breaking influx has come from.
I came here from http://www.bored.com as well, but for the first several months I didn’t even go to the MB! I just plowed through a seemingly endless list of Mailbag goodies, and of course every Unca Cece column I could locate. For some reason I decided to click on the Message Board and see what was what, and after lurking for a week or so, I registered.
