I’m trying to create a greeting card for my son’s wedding, using HP Matte greeting card stock in my Canon MP640 printer. The printer software doesn’t include ‘greeting card’ as an option in the printing setup menu. I really don’t want to have to print a photo, then cut it out and glue it to the card. Any clue as to where I can find software or templates to allow me to create this card?
Have you checked HP’s web site? Take a look for the item number for the greeting card stock; they probably have printing templates available for download.
That’s the weird thing: there’s no number on the box of cards. I imported the photo to Word and turned it 90 degrees, but no amount of manipulation or fussing with margins could make the damn thing close enough to the top of the page to be able to print it onto the card stock (it’s bifold).
Is there an Avery template for a similarly-sized Avery product?
In Word you can create custom paper sizes. My wife does it so she can print text on the top or left half of a bi-fold card. You can set paper size and margins to suit yourself.
I think I’ve found a cardmaking program that will work. It takes a bit of manipulation, but it looks like I can get it to come out okay. Thanks for the help.
Open the Office Online (i.e. Word’s) help box and type in ‘greeting card’. It should find a lot of online templates.
PowerPoint. Make a slide (or two, for the inside and outside of the card) to suit the paper size you want. If you have the 2010 version, it’s in the Design tab under Page Setup - you’ll be able to specify the dimensions of the paper you are using. If you go precise, then you can just size your photo to fit the slide, and add text boxes and other images to complete the card.
It’s how I make posters for school presentations; it really is an amazing amount of flexibility and quite easy to use.
It’s true. I hate powerpoint for presentations, but I find it very handy for making posters, cards, cd covers, etc.
