Where USA buys oil

I seem to remember reciently (tho I can’t find it) a thread that mentioned where the US buys most of it’s oil. I remember it because I was surprised that the statement was made that we buy something like 80% of our oil from Canada, and most of the rest from Venzuala (pardon my speling).

Can anyone confirm or deny this? If it is NOT true, can anyone tell me what the percentages are and from what sources?

This question pops up in today’s Globe and Mail, where a columnist gets all Socratic and asks which are the top five oil-producing nations that deal with the US.

The article does not list its source material, though.

Thank you, folks!

That link only shows the top ten countries & Iraq isn’t even on it. Iran is though.

Also, search the net for the international Oil Pool, from where lots of countries get their oil.

My link? The one I provided does indeed only list the top 10, but it includes Iraq at #6.

I read something recently that put US imports from Saudi Arabia at about 9%, and Iraq at about 3%.

Every thing you want to know about oil production you can find at:

Okay, I wrote to the columnist to find out where he got his figures.
