Where would you be posting from if they'd kept the original name?

Old Bridge (I think, but possibly the Lawrence plantation), now East Brunswick.

Earpville.

Another one from Duwamps here, just across the bay from Alki-New York.

Make that New York-Alki.

Riley’s Switch is what the city of Clovis, New Mexico used to be called before it was a governmental entity.

In various different Native American languages, it was simply described by what was there. Mountains to the East, grasslands and red dirt North and South, mesas to the West. With loads of lakes and rivers.

After Coranado explored it, it was part of the Louisianna Territory.

After the US got it, it was used as Indian Territory for relocating 67 Indian tribes. The name Oklahoma actually means Red People in the Choctaw language.

New Amsterdam here.

The area staked out as [Lafayette](http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~library/special/marquis/CelebratingLafayette/towntributes.htm#Laf, IN) on May 25, 1825 received its current name on that date. However, I’m posting this particular message from West Lafayette, which was styled “Jacktown” by its first non-Indian settlers.

“When the second Seminole war ended in 1842, American settlers began following soldiers into Central Florida. Originally named Jernigan after Aaron Jernigan who came from Georgia in 1843, the town’s name was permanently changed to Orlando in 1857. The name is credited to Orlando Reeves, a U.S. soldier who was killed in 1835 by an Indian’s arrow while on duty at what is now Lake Eola Park in Downtown Orlando.”

Tamaki Makaurau, Aotearoa.

Better known as Auckland, New Zealand.

Vancouver and Quadra Island until some time in the 19th century

To the best of my knowledge, this place has never been known as anything other than Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the town named after a berry. (And what a delicious berry it is! :))

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan has got to be my favorite place name. I first discovered it when I was typing my family geneology for my Grandmother twenty five years ago. Say hi to all my distant cousins! (Didn’t realize there was a berry, cool!).

Oh, and for awhile I lived in Hog Haven, better known today as Moscow, ID.

Amstelledamme first, then Amstelredam. [ofcourse, because the Dutch build a city on a dam]

Pile o’Bones, Rupert’s Land

A little north of Yerba Buena.

From the great state of Transylvania.

Same here; I’m actually in the old part of the city. (Don’t you ever sleep? )
