Where would you go if you could go any place in the world?

I’m sorry. You can’t go home again. I read that somewhere.

Me, If I “could” (that is, was able to climb), I’d vote the top of Mt Everest. But I can’t.

There are three places that I would love to take SWMBO that we just don’t have the time/money to go to:

The Meteor Crater near Winslow, Az
The Grand Canyon
Hill End, Australia

She’s been to Europe and I haven’t, so on her side are London, England and various places in Germany.

Slightly O/T; but a few months ago, my brother and his wife visited – from the UK – the south-west corner of the USA for a few weeks, including the Grand Canyon. Brother can be something of a Grinch: he commented to me about the Canyon, “I don’t see why people make such a fuss about it. It’s just a bloody big hole in the ground.”

Iran, Bhutan, and I’d love to return to Japan.

That sort of rhymes.

And how about Oman and the Chinese island of Hainan?

When friends retired a few years ago they went on a three month drive zigzagging randomly through the US. They snail-mailed me a picture of themselves that made no sense until I looked at the canceled stamp and saw it was Winslow, Arizona and they were just standing on a corner (purposely avoiding the statue and signage).

In terms of places I’ve been, Galapagos combined with Cusco/Machu Piccu is very hard to beat (also very hard to afford…expensive, it is). New Zealand is beautiful and pretty empty, and if you’re willing to sleep in hostels, travel can be relatively inexpensive (google Haka tours-unpd ad).

As for places I’ve never been…China is one the list, as is St. Petersburg. And the comments above about Iran have given me some thought…

But do travel. The world is an amazing place, see as much of it as you can.

I’d love to go to New Zealand. I’m a glider pilot and some of the best soaring in the world is down there. Not just that but, from what I’ve in the Lord of the Rings movies and other places , the place is just spectacular. Jet boats, bungee jumping - those folks know how to have fun! Not sure if there is any good beer there, however.
