I’ve lived all my life in Texas. Heck, I’ve lived most of my life here in Austin. I’m ready for a change.
Every winter I vow to move someplace north (you know, where they have actual seasons rather than Hot and Notsohot) before the summer hits. Every summer I’m still here.
Lately, though, I’ve been increasingly dissatisfied with my life- I figure my midlife crisis is hitting a mite early.
There are a lot of things to keep me here- friends, family (especially my sister, who’s just moved here after living out of state for ten years, and who just four months ago presented me with a darling baby niece)… and especially job.
There are a few reasons for me to move, as well, in addition to the obvious asphalt-melting summer heat. I’m ready to live in a new city, for one. I’m at the top of the pay scale for my job (I’m a 3D Animator/Artist in the game industry), and it doesn’t seem likely that I’ll get a pay increase either here or anywhere else in Texas, for that matter. As I said, I’ve never lived anywhere else. There’s also someone who’s probably too much temptation for this married man, as well, dammit. sigh
All that said, what am I doing about it? In the past two days, I’ve applied to four different jobs in companies as far away as England. I haven’t had much luck in the past looking for new jobs, but the game industry’s on an upswing.
I’m mostly just rambling… but on the off-chance: anyone heard of any game companies hiring lately?
