I don’t understand the logic that reasons that because Armitage was a source for Novak (and Armitage is a Realist and basically one of the decent Republicans) that somehow keeps Cheney, Rove and Libby from conspiring to leak Plame’s name. One does not follow the other.
We know that Rove did leak her name. Could Armitage have been unknowingly manipulated? Why has he remained silent all of this time? Were Cheney’s scribblings on the newspaper just a coincidence too?
To paraphrase Carl Sandburg, If we had some ham, we could have some ham and eggs if we had some eggs..
Scylla, you really need to post more non-political stuff. I keep seeing the political items (with whicvh I disagree pretty completely), and I forget what incredible stuff you can do. No joke. The opening of this post is marvelously done (even if I look at it the other way).
As for the stuff about the cow, it brings back memories of going to “The Piggy Farm” as a kid. The Piggy Farm was actually the Rutgers College Agricultural Research Station, where I saw Portholed Cows. Good to see I wasn’t the only one with this experience.
Until someone brought it up recently, I didn’t even know about your goat. Priceless stuff.
We need more witty intros and non-political musings.
I don’t think Cheney feels pain in the same manner that vertebrates do. And you can’t besmirch someone’s character unless they have some.
The Armitage story is fascinating to me. What I find so interesting is whether or not Colin Powell knew about this all along and whether he told the White House. If Powell deliberately let Bush and Rove twist in the wind over this, then good on him.
So, to try to piece together what we have so far, first Armitage, who was apparently unaware of Plame’s status, told Novack. Novack called Rove and asked him to confirm, and he did, even though he was aware of her status. Then Rove called Cooper and told him.
I’m unclear as to how this exonerates Rove. Unless, for some reason, it is considered OK to confirm that classified information that has already been leaked is true, and then pass it on to others. Is there something in the law that says once something is leaked, you can tell whomever you want? That doesn’t seem likely to me.
…Okay, I’ll say one thing. Hasn’t it been fairly well-established by news reports – and by Bob Novak himself – that Rove was one of Novak’s “senior administration official” sources? See, for example, this Post article.
And of course, none of us should allow any consideration that the gang of clowns from which so many good candidates for an act that would have put the likes of you or I into prison are a team. A Republican Team, chosen from the finest leaders and philosophers that the Right Wing could assemble.
It isn’t the President’s fault! The Party is not responsible! It’s the Liberals!
You’re right. When you’re right, you’re right. And when you’re not, you’re… Well, that’s how I normally find you.
But I do owe Rove and Cheney, and for that matter Bush, an apology. I’m sorry, guys.
Dear Evil Asswipes: In the past I have accused you of being evil asswipes who have attempted to turn this great nation into a theocracy, who have called me a treasonous terrorist simply because I have a differing opinion, who have gutted the treasury to line their own pockets, who outright lied to start an illegal war in the name of oil, and who were the chief cause of Plamegate.
I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that you are evil asswipes who have attempted to turn this great nation into a theocracy, who have called me a treasonous terrorist simply because I have a differing opinion, who have gutted the treasury to line their own pockets, who outright lied to start an illegal war in the name of oil, and who were merely complicit in Plamegate.
I’m also sorry that you don’t have transparent plastic windows in your chests, so that I could rip your hearts out and burn them. But I have a feeling that all I’d get is black sludge anyway, so it’s all good.
Oh, and one more thing: Occasionally, in my wild and mindless rantings about Bushco, I may get a minor fact or two wrong. I ain’t apologizing for it. I don’t owe those fuckheads an apology for anything. They should be apologizing to me. And to you. I’m a Liberal and damned proud of it. I have nothing to be ashamed of. If, on the other hand, you voted for Bush and do not deeply regret it by now, then you have serious issues. Seek professional help.
[QUOTE=Scylla] …and probably gets gangbanged by the lefties in the process when it all backfires on him.
It wasn’t Rove. It wasn’t Cheney. It wasn’t revenge.
It was Richard Armitage, notorious Washington gossip who was the source for Novak and Woodward.

One way or another, it’s just more snakes on a Plame.

By the way, Bricker, I’ve been meaning to say this but I caught the other thread too late in the game. In this thread, you grievously misstated the state of the law when, in response to a question about a sheriff committing an illegal search, you said:
That’s simply incorrect. The individual arrested on the basis of the illegal search could recover damages from the sheriff under Section 1983 (or Bivens, if it was a federal officer) not only if the sheriff delberately acted with malice, but if his conduct was such that a reasonable officer would have known it to be unconstitutional or illegal, which is a quite different – and much lower, although still high – standard. See, e.g., my judge’s opinion in Olaniyi v. D.C., 416 F. Supp. 2d 43 (2006).
I’ll bet Baron Vladimir Harkonnen of Dune had transparent access ports put in the sides of his cows. That way, he could steal the food from cows who’d displeased him even after they’d eaten it. He could also give cows he didn’t like heartburn by putting chili peppers directly into their stomachs.
That was probably a cow that really displeased him hanging upside down in the 1974 David Lynch film. The one the Beast Rabban rips a piece ut of and starts ckowing down on.
Back when it was coming out (and this is all from memory which may be failed, I wasn’t obsessing over it), seems like Novak called Rove and asked about Wilson’s wife, or something like that. Rove told him he better be careful about running with that story, Wilson’s wife was CIA.
My take on it was that Novak already knew and was calling Rove to confirm. Which he did, which made him guilty of spilling the beans. The gist I got out of it was that Rove was telling Novak not to pursue the Plame angle because she was CIA, not telling him to out Plame because she was CIA and the wife of Wilson who was in bad graces with Cheney.
But I probably have it screwed up and will come across looking like a Rove apologist.
Y’all should read the public pleadings in the Libby indictment; it clears some of this stuff up…including the relevant timeline and what, exactly, Novak’s sources are alleged to have done in furtherance of a possible leak.
Thats not “bitter milk” it’s really kool-aid, isn’t it? Everybody knows not to drink kool-aid offered by people like Scylla right? It can only end badly.
