I’m glad you have someone on the “outside” to advocate for you and bring you edibles etc. That is essential I hope things begin to improve rapidly on the care front and on the being able to move yourself front. Og knows it’s hard to be at the mercy of a bunch of people who are often badly overworked and/or poorly trained.
Keep letting us know how it’s going and remember, if you bitch to a bunch of dopers we will cheer you up with lousy puns and ridiculous suggestions. Any time, night or day.
ETA: does your brother know about us? If so maybe you should refer him here, in case he needs to be cheered up with lousy puns and ridiculous suggestions, or something.
Without my brother I would be lost. He’s held my life together; paying my bills, insurance payments, etc. (out of my funds, of course.) He advocated for me when they were near ready to give up on saving me. He brings me my mail. He drives my car at least once a week (essential for a hybrid). He does so many little things that are too numerous to mention.
I don’t think that I can ever really pay him back for what he’s done.
Regarding my progress; my legs are stronger every day; which is the main goal of my therapy.
When I can get up and go to the bathroom myself, etc., even if it’s with a walker, a lot of my current issues will disappear.

I don’t know how prominent I am on here or if anyone has even noticed my absence, but I wanted to post an explanation for anyone who cares.
Near the beginning of October I had an endoscopy looking for Crohn’s. They tore a hole in my bowel and poisoned my whole system. I had to have dialysis for several weeks until my kidneys recovered. They kept me intentionally unconscious for several weeks. They were discussing end of life decisions with my family.
Obviously I’m still alive, and I’m getting stronger every day. I’ve been laying in bed for so long that I’ll need physical therapy just to be able to walk again.
Anyway that’s my story for anyone who’s interested.
Sorry you’ve been feeling so crappy.
davidm:
Some days the food is great, some days not so much.
Since my problem is with my bowel, corn kernels are something I need to avoid. This evening, they served this wonderful beef stew, which contained corn. So I had to pick out the corn while I ate. The alternative would have been a grilled cheese sandwich. Nuts are also something I can’t tolerate.
They don’t have menus. You eat what they give you, or you get a grilled sandwich.
I thought you were going to say “you eat what they give you or it gets the hose again”.
Glad to hear your brother is stepping up to help. He sounds like a real solid guy!

When I said “grilled sandwich”, I meant to type “grilled cheese sandwich”.
I figured as such. Most places never interrogate their food sufficiently.

Just checking in so you know I’m still alive. I had some very good beef stew for lunch and I’ll be heading to PT soon.
I’m feeling stronger and more optomistic every day.

Yummm. Beef stew. Yeah. Hungry now.
Keep working at it and those muscles will rebound in no time.
I’ll wager that w/ the start of PT comes the start of good nights’ rest as well. I hope they have you home before Xmas.
Sorry the food choices are so oddly limited, but glad to hear that you’re progressing nicely.

I walked 4 or 5 feet today (with a walker and 3 people supporting me.)
It’s embarrassing just how frightening it was. My knees kept giving out on me.
that counts! congratulations

Congrats; those first steps are the hardest. It oughta come back soon enough. It won’t feel soon enough as you’re doing it, but unless they’re expecting nerve or brain damage come back it will.
Bravo, and keep on plugging: Tomorrow is 6 or 7 feet.
Yeah, those first steps are key. Very glad to hear you got out of bed and stretched the old legs a bit. A little bit each day; a little bit each day!
Just posting to let you know I’m following along with your “unfortunate adventure”. I’m pulling for you! I hope it turns out well in the end for you and that you are appropriately compensated for troubles.

I found out today that my adrenals have started working again. That’s a big deal.
Excellent! I understand that *is *a big deal and I hope it’s an indication you’re on the road to recovery sooner than later.
Very glad to hear you’re getting stronger DavidM.
We’re following your posts and wishing you a speedy recovery.

“Misadventure?” “Misadventure ?” Isn’t that synonymous with “hijinks”? Did the hospital have a little peccadillo? :smack:
Mental note: medico-legal terminology is apparently self-serving doublespeak.
davidm : I’m glad you’re on the mend and hope you keep at it. I always like your questions, and will expect you back to ask more.
Ask me about it. I suffer from idiopathic rhinitis. Last month it was asymmetric tonsure.
