Southern New Jersey native. Born in Atlantic City, raised in Absecon. Four years in Glassboro, NJ for university, followed by three back in Absecon. Have been in China/Taiwan and Southeast Asia for the past year. Will probably be in Beijing next year, with a few months elsewhere in China or Taiwan. Currently in Thailand.
Born Welwyn Garden City and grew up and went to school in Hertfordshire (county immediately north of London).
Went to Uni at UCC Cardiff, Wales, then lived in Highgate, North London for the next fifteen years or so and where I was when started on the SD.
A couple of expat years in Luanda, Angola (during which I fought a lot of SD ignorance about Africa) and now married to a Scot and living in Edinburgh (I only do capital cities!) for the last five years and hopefully the next forty.
Lovely place Edinburgh. If the weather was any good everyone would live in Scotland and it would be awful…
The weather in Edinburgh’s not so bad right now; I can see blue sky almost breaking through, and the rain has stopped for a bit!

What’s wrong with the weather in Scotland? I got a tan in Aberdeen in May.
On the other hand, the guide at the Laphroaig distillery claimed that if you can’t see Ireland it’s raining and if you can see Ireland it’s going to rain.
That’s because May is the sunniest month in Scotland.
There have been two maybe three good weeks of weather so far this year, one in April, one in May and one in July. That’s it so far.
Oh, it stopped raining.

Dingwall is my hometown and I’ve family in Invergordon. Did you ever climb Fyrish while you were there? Not been up there for years but used to go up often; easy walk but a cracking view from the top.
Yip Milnafua - sis stayed there - was a good few years ago - other sis stayed at the other side of Alness - kirkwall or something. I did go to the Fyrish once - great view as you said. still visit the area from time to time - my mums ashes are scattered up at Nigg - oh the fishing off the pier - really great part of the country. Used to work at Foulis Ferry restraunt as well. Happy times ![]()
