It’s got a beach! What’s not to attract? And a nicer beach than the one where we stayed near Inverness, all rocky and covered in seaweed. Parkhead’s not much of one for beach activities, but I wouldn’t mind spending a little more than half an hour wandering along the sand and picking up pretty stones and maybe even taking a dip if it weren’t too cold. Which it probably is, being Scotland.
It would have been nicer if we’d had the time for a more leisurely tour, two days of driving without a lot of getting out to see things was a bit tiring, I fell asleep in the car after Dundee and missed the very last bit coming home. Though, that said, I spent a week and a half on the road with my mom in 2009, covering 8 states and 6,500 kilometers. That included three days staying in the San Francisco area, so all that driving was done in a week’s time. There were several days in a row which were just “get up, drive drive drive, stop, sleep”. I started from Winnipeg, picked mom up in North Dakota, then went through South Dakota, Eastern Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, Northern California, and Oregon, ending at her home in Eastern Washington. Whew! It was epic, but that too would have been nicer if we’d had the time to do it slowly.
Ah, bad phrasing on my part. I can also see the Erskine Bridge, Ben Lomond, most of Glasgow and a fair bit to the east, from my kitchen window. It’s a case of I’ve got a *very *good view, rather than living obnoxiously close to the stadium:)
(I might have opened the windows wide to see if the wind carried the noise to me when Take That were playing earlier this year though!)
Did Take That play at Parkhead? I had this hazy idea it was Hampden, but I could be wrong.
Sounds like a great view you have. Our view here in Hamilton is, um, unremarkable. Back in 1996 I left the city to move to London, and the day before I drove up the Cathkin Braes to have a look at the view. If you can navigate the broken Buckfast bottles and used condoms, it’s a pretty impressive viewpoint.
Born in L.A. (Well, L.A. County, near Long Beach), Hayama, Japan aged three to four, San Diego 'til I was 15, Lancaster (northern L.A. County, Mojave Desert) for high school and young [del]adultery[/del] adulthood, the City of Los Angeles for 17 years, and now I’m in the Pacific Northwest off the Strait of Georgia just below the Canadian border.
That does sound like a nice view. Ours is, as PaulParkhead mentioned, unremarkable, but at least we directly overlook a nice little green space instead of the main street of Ned Central or something.
Born in Middlesbrough (NE England) lived ten years in Aberdeen and even several years in Shetland. One year plus in Istanbul and as am Kiwi by descent 18 months in Auckland. Been here in Manila now 11 years though currently working rotational out in Dubai.
I live in the Heartland of America, otherwise known as the Boothell of Misery, (in the bootheel section of Missouri, USA). I have lived all over the Southern and Eastern USA. (MS, TN, GA, FL, NY, VA, VT) I maybe the only doper who has attended a Washington Senator (RFK Stadium) and Montreal Expo (Jarry Parc) Baseball Home Game.
You don’t know the half of it - the ‘one’ Wyoming stop had three addresses, and the ‘two’ Colorado stops had seven addresses (that I can think of - eight if you count the Bucksnort Saloon )
Yes, Kilvert’s my brother.
I’ve also done the East side suburbs of Cleveland, Kentucky, North Carolina (4 addresses), Indiana, Colorado (2 addresses) and Washington State (3 addresses). I may be an Ohio native, but I consider Washington to be where I’m ‘from’, as I’ve lived here far longer than anywhere else.
Born south Oxfordshire (England that is), lived France, Germany, Belfast, and Dundee as a boy - ended up back where I was born. Been here for 30 years now.
Colorado was 8 even without the Bucksnort: Golden, Pine, Aurora, [decamp for a year to/from Detroit], Aurora again, Pine again, then three in Pueblo.

Lovely country there; I don’t blame you for returning. My family has major roots along the Thames there ( Moulsford / Streatley / Cholsey / Wallingford / Oxford itself), although none remain there anymore
South Jersey x 17 years; West Philadelphia X 5 years; Eastern ‘burbs of Cleveland x 4 years; Miami x 3 years; Jacksonville x 15 years; Ponte Vedra Beach x (…a while now).
Oh, maybe it was. Does it help my credibility that I obviously hadn’t paid that much attention to them?
Umm, okay, thankfully I don’t live in Cathkin, but yeah, let’s just say my view is very similar to that one you’d get from all the way up there and leave the discussion there before I give away my location even more!
I’ll stop hijacking this thread now, if anyone in or near Scotland wants to join me over herefor a chat?
