Where's my pizza?

So I got home late from work, and decided that ordering a pizza would be faster and easier than trying to put dinner together. I call and order, and it’s going to be 45 minutes for the delivery, which is okay, i’ve got some stuff to do before dinner. Okay, now it’s an hour later, and there’s still no pizza here. I call the place, the girl who answers puts me on hold, and then the manager gets on the line. He tells me that the delivery guy brought my order to the wrong address, and they are just about to send out my free (!) replacement order. Five minutes later, I’ve got a freshly made hot pizza.

So my question is, have you ever had a pizza delivered to you by mistake? I’ve had a couple of encounters with my pizza going somewhere else, but never has someone else’s pizza come to me. What’s the protocol here? Does the delivery guy just assume that it was a crank call and offer to sell it you? Do you pay full price for the mystery pizza? What if it has anchovies?

(P.S. This is my very first thread. :slight_smile: )

I’ve delievered pizza far too many times in my life… and never once did I knowingly deliver a pizza to the wrong place, and not know about it. Either they or someone else at the address ordered the pizza, and paid for it, or they didn’t and I left. I suppose that I could have gotten someone who just figured “Hey, a pizza… I didn’t order this but I’m hungry. I’ll just grab some money and pay for it, he’ll never know.” If this had happened, tho, I suspect I would have heard about it when the real customer called back.

Rarely, I have actually sold, or more often just given, the pizza to the wrong address. This only happened when I did in fact go to the wrong address (my fault or theirs) AND called the store, who called the actual customer, and usually sent out a fresh one immediately with someone else.

In those cases, I would tell the non-customer what was on it, and generally either just give it to 'em or, sometimes, offer to sell it for 1/2 price. This is, of course, assuming I didn’t decide to just eat it myself on the way back. q;}

That’s just me, tho. Other pizza dude’s mileage may vary… $0.25/per seems about average. :smiley:

I deliver pizza and I’ve never heard of that happening either. When I have orders come back, I’ll usually hang on to the food and take it home. No sense in wasting it. I’ve had people offer to buy whatever I have in my car, but never when it’s coming back.
