I figure if Fringe was any good, I would have at least heard of it. But I’ve never heard of it until this thread, so X-Files it is.
Fringe wins, in my opinion, by a country mile, and I liked X-Files.
I tried to rewatch X-Files on Netflix a few weeks ago. I really tried, but gave up after 5 episodes. It just wasn’t as good or interesting as I’d remembered it, and it doesn’t really hold up.
Fringe, which I actually hated at first, grew on me quickly, and had some truly remarkable episodes. Case in point: Marionette. Watch it. Even better, watch all the episodes in the season preceding it. You won’t regret it.
Also, the writing in Fringe is far superior than in X-Files.
I tried watching both somewhat recently, and I couldn’t get past the first 2 or 3 episodes of either. They both should be right up my alley but there were a couple of things in each that irritated me too much to ignore. I spent too much time talking at the television to get into the story and too annoyed to enjoy myself.
I have to say, X-files hasn’t held up too well either, I think.
Is one better than the other? Are they good or bad shows? I have no idea. All I know is, I didn’t care for either of them.
Wow, we had a thread about it just about every week it aired for 5 years. It was really big.
Anyway, I find it odd that I never voted back when I started this thread. I just voted now.
Fringe is better. As I believe someone mentioned upthread, you really need to give it a full season. It really kicks into high gear in subsequent seasons, and there are some real surprises.
The final season was just okay for me, not terrible, but not as good as previous seasons.
