Mine also changes a lot, but this is what I’ve been listening to lately
NOFX “War on Errorism” Its the newest NOFX album and while its political views are pretty much opposite of mine (and its the most political album by them in many moons), its still a good album Pink Floyd “Animals” I don’t know why, but I always miss this album in all my other trips through Pink Floyd, now that it has finally caught my attention, it doesn’t seem to want to let go The Who “Who’s Next” This or Quadrephenia has been seen a lot lately in Winamp, The Who might not get the same respect as the Stones or the Beatles get, but Townsend is, IMHO, the best song writer in any of the 3 big first wave English invasion bands Soundgarden “BadMotorFinger” Brings me back to '93 and who and what I was then, and it’s a great fucking album STP “Core” Kind of like above, but I listen to this a lot less than BMF, some good songs, but some dead weight to, the best songs on this album are barely on par with the worst on BMF
The Cynics-Living Is The Best Revenge
The Fleshtones-Roman Gods AND Hexbreaker
Leaving Trains-FUCK
Monks-Black Monk Time
Full Time Men (Fleshtones Side project)-Your Face My Fist
Peter Zarembas Love Delegation (another Flshtones side project)-Spread The Word
Neko Case: “Blacklisted”
New Pornographers: “Electric Version”
Evanescence: “Fallen”
Pale Saints: “The Comforts of Madness”
Mike Ness: “Cheating At Solitaire”
I was never a big fan of NOFX, but WoE is a work of lyrical genius. One thing you can say about Fat Mike and co., they stayed true to the cause all these years. Its just hard not to blame them for all the shit bands they’ve influenced along the line.
Gotta admit, all my CDs are burned. But here’s my list anyway:
My Hank Williams Jr compilation
Hank Williams III - Risin’ Outlaw
“X-tra Good Country”, has David Allan Coe, Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, etc.
George Strait compilation
“I Ain’t Drinking Any Less” - A CD I made with songs all about getting drunk.
Elysian Fields - Bleed Your Cedar - God but Jennifer Charles has a sultry voice Medicine - Shot Forth Self Living Butthole Surfers - Butthole Surfers & PCPPEP - They finally got around to releasing it on CD Skinny Puppy - Back and Forth Six cEvin Key - The Dragon Experience - I’m in an early Skinny Puppy mood lately
Soul Coughing - Ruby Vroom
Frank Sinatra - The Capitol Years (disc 2?)
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Dave Matthews Band - Busted Stuff
Not suited to heavy rotation but required regularly
Bill Hicks - Flying Saucer Tour Vol. 1 Bill vs bad audiences what a hoot.
In Flames - Reroute to Remain Marillion - Misplaced Childhood Journey - Captured (“You see this microphone right over here…?”) Tool - Lateralus Yes - s/t
Polyphonic Spree - The Beginning Stages Of… Tiësto - Nyana (Disk 2) Stay Awake: Various Interpretations Of Disney Music Peter Gabriel - Passion: Music For The Last Temptation Of Christ Armin van Buuren - Transparance
Nevermind - Nirvana. Learning to play the guitar and looking for easy-to-learn songs led me back to this album.
King - Belly. Got it when it first came out, thought “Well, it’s good, but not as good as their first album.” Recently re-discovered it and totally changed my opinion of it.
L’Avventura - Britta Philips & Dean Wareham. These two are apparently well-known indie-rockers or something. I had never heard of them, but listened to the album in Borders and was hooked by the spare recordings of catchy, lounge-y pop songs. Some covers, some originals.
Holiday - The Magnetic Fields. Favorite band since back in 2000, when I bought “69 Love Songs”.
Billy Bragg-Peel Sessions Beautiful South-Welcome to the Beautiful South The Pogues-The Very Best Of… Nature’s Best-New Zealand’s Top 30 Songs of All Time Toy Story 2-Woody’s Roundup
King Crimson: “Larks’ Tongues in Aspic”
The Beatles: all of their albums continuously
Fairport Convention: “Liege & Lief” as well as “Full House”
Neil Young: “After the Gold Rush”
Jethro Tull: “Live at the Carnegie Hall 1971”
Radiohead - OK Computer. It’s odd, just few months ago I hated Radiohead, and now can’t stop listening to this album. Pixies - Doolittle. Perhaps my favorite album of all time. CMX - Aura. My favorite Finnish album of all time. Perfect mix of poppier and harder sounds. Gets a bit boring towards the end, though. Firewater - Psychopharmacology. Had to order this one from abroads (ie. America), but it was worth it.
And finally, if we look at the CDs in heavy rotation through my entire life, the fifth one has to be Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables.
