CD - Portishead.

And a tape a friend of mine made for me; a copy of a tape made for her by a DJ. It’s a dance mix titled Pinky and the Brain. Very cool.

Since all of my CDs were stolen in the robbery, my boss bought me a CD burner. So I’ve purchased some new CDs, but mostly have been recording a lot of my old vinyl.

New CD: Diana Krall’s (the one nominated for Grammy) - really pleasant and relaxing music, but not enough kick for power walking through Midtown.

New Burned CD: “Bongo Fury” and “The Best of the Mother’s of Invention”: Lately I can’t get enough of Zappa, the Mothers or Beefheart.

-The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
-Ray Charles: Anthology
-Frank Sinatra w/ Count Basie
-Sarah MacLachlan: Surfacing
-Emanuel Ax playing Brahms’ Variations on a theme by Handel and the Op. 118 intermezzos
-Rostropovich playing the Bach unaccompanied cello suites

Amanda Marshall - self-titled
Original Broadway Cast - The Pajama Game
Patty Loveless - Long Stretch of Lonesome

Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, “Burn to Shine.”

This CD is awesome. Mellower than I thought it would be, given that the title track is one of the best make-my-booty-wanna-move songs I’ve heard all year. But it is just great. I highly recommend it.

Also Smashing Pumpkin’s latest “Machina: The Machines of God.” Growing on me more and more with every listen.

Last weekend I popped in an oldie but goodie I hadn’t heard in a long time: Black Sabbath’s “We Sold Our Soul for Rock and Roll.” It’s a double-CD compilation of most of their best stuff from the old days.

I still remember when I was a kid, my older brother playing those albums and I would run from the room cuz I was scared.
