Which are your Top 5 CDs in heavy rotation?

1)The Bad Plus-These are the Vistas. Great jazz CD. Piano led (no vox) and a great cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.
2)Whiskeytown-Pneumonia. Ryan Adams’ old band. Great CD of alt-country tuneage.
3)Cesaria Evora-Sao Vicente. Perfect summer CD for the backround. Swingin’ on a hammock, sippin’ on a mojito, chatting with friends…
4)Cheryl Wheeler-No Previous Record. This is a fan-email-list-only double CD release that has only unreleased tracks performed live.
5)Gary Jules-Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets. I found this artist through the movie “Donnie Darko”. His voice and stylings are somewhat reminescent of Cat Stevens, but it’s all fresh. Unlike the other 4 CDs, this one has stayed in rotation for about 3 months.

Radiohead - Airbag/How Am I Driving?

Rasputina - How We Quit the Forest

Big Star - #1 Record/Radio City

Nina Simone - Jazz Masters 17

Tim Buckley - Morning Glory anthology (disc 1)

Not underrated in my book! (I should have included it in my list) If I could only listen to one song, for the rest of my life, Dogs wouldn’t be my first choice, but it would be a choice I would be PLENTY happy with!

(Note: this is strictly a work mix. At home, I mainly listen to songs stored on my computer. And Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville, which I can’t play at work due to the heavy cursing.)

  1. Depeche Mode, Violator. I’ve been on a big DM kick lately, and this is probably my favorite so far. I listen to it at least once a day.

  2. Johnny Cash, The Man Comes Around. Fantastic album, and apparently a customer favorite - I’ve had more than one person leave the store with the title written down so they could go buy it.

  3. Buena Vista Social Club, Buena Vista Social Club Soundtrack. This always makes me dance around like a loon. I’d like to sing along, too, but my Spanish is poor, and it’s taking me forever to retain any of the words.

  4. Billie Holiday, Greatest Hits. The title is something of a misnomer, as it’s actually more a collection of early hits. But it has “Gloomy Sunday,” and that’s all I really need to be happy.

  5. George Harrison, Brainwashed. A beautiful and totally appropriate farewell.

OOO!!! Strange Fruit, what an amazing song!

This is a beautiful album. However, it needs so much concentration to really listen to that I don’t listen to it often.

My list:

  1. Radiohead - Kid A (The most beautiful CD I’ve ever heard)
  2. The White Stripes - White Blood Cells (I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but it’s just a killer album)
  3. Manitoba - Up In Flames (Mmmmm, summery IDM)
  4. Beck - Mutations (Great for cool summer nights)
  5. The Microphones - The Glow, Part 2 (An excellent album)

Heavy rotation this week:

New Pornographers - Electric Version
Percy Faith - Bouquet
Rod McKuen - mix CD I made
Donnie Brooks - Greatest Hits 1958-1968
Mitch Hedburg - Strategic Grill Locations

Hey, that’s all right. No worries here. I wasn’t trying to sound snarky or anything!

Live Better Electrically! … I like your name, it sounds cool.

  2. Killing Joke - Pandemonium
  3. Powderfinger - Vulture Street
  4. Pacifier - Weapons Of Mass Destruction
  5. Shirley Bassey - The Best Of Shirley Bassey
