Which Avengers should assemble in the sequel?

To quasi-Nazis and cyborg aliens. I don’t think he’ll be snapping bank robbers’ necks.

Well, sure, but as I understand it, Batman wouldn’t even kill quasi-Nazis – or genuine Nazis! – or cyborg aliens, but he bases his schtick around making even bank robbers cringe like a superstitious and cowardly lot facing imminent lethal force from a guy dressed like some kind of terrifying vampire; by contrast, Cap is dressed for a cheery stage performance alongside dancing girls despite unhesitatingly killing folks – and while I agree it’s unlikely that Cap would decide to off a mundane crook, I’d say he’s actually a more likely candidate than the dark vigilante trying really really really hard to look like he’d do it.

Paranex, The Fighting Fetus.

I think the theory is Batman will beat you so badly, you wish he just killed you. I know in one of the issues, Batman breaks the hip of a robber and someone mentions that he just crippled the guy…to which Batman coldly states something like, “He’s still young, he’ll heal…probably.”

Captain Mar-Vell was also big Thanos nemesis, I think even more so than Warlock.

But, to backstory that, they’d need to introduce the Kree and the Skrulls and everything else . . .

While I, too, am so done with the Watchmen-esque eternally dark angsty angst, Spider-Man without the sucky personal life would be like McDonalds without hamburgers. Stan Lee, in creating the character, basically said: I’m creating a super-schnook. A guy whose superpowers don’t solve his personal problems (a la so many Golden Age superheroes) but just added to them. He can beat Dr. Octopus but he can’t keep his date with Mary Jane. He can save people from collapsing buildings but everybody at school thinks he’s a loser. That’s Spider-Man.

The new reboot, from the ads I’ve seen, certainly seems to be continuing that tradition.

I have a Marvel\Disney shirt…and the three women they chose for the shirt are Sue Storm, Marvel Girl and Scarlett Witch. Since marvel girl and sue storm are primarily identified with other teams, my money would be on the Scarlett witch. I think they may add another character and I think it’s likely to be female.

[aside]In the DisneyXD Avengers series (which is pretty good), they’ve introduced Mahr-Vell before he got his powers, Ms. Marvel with powers, Warlock (as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy with no backstory, but with soul gem), the Kree, and the Skrull. Also Simon Williams and Ultron. They’ve done a good job with Hank Pym as the guy who was a hero just for Janet Van Dyne, not because he really wanted to be one. On the down side, they’ve made T’challa into a near-super just like DC/Warner did with Hawkgirl in the Justice League series. [/aside]

The difference is, IMHO, that Cap is a soldier and kills because that’s what soldiers do, whereas Batman is a nutcase who really, really *wants *to kill people and has to physically restrain himself from doing so.

Well, that’s the difference between a cop (private vigilante, but a cop at heart) and a soldier.

Historically, many people have been killed by men in bright, cheery red coats and spotless white trousers.

I don’t follow comics, but I do think a female brick would be good to replace the Hulk.

Hulk’s way to much of a fan favorite to be written out. It’d be like an Ocean’s sequel without Pitt or Damon. It’d fit the comics but not the reality of a general audience’s expectations.

With Fury in charge of SHIELD and Rhodey as War Machine I think they’ve gotten demonstrated that would not be an issue. Honestly, Black Panther would have to worry more about being thought of as the male Black Widow, since their names, abilities and costume designs are similar.

Now if they used the Falcon he probably would be seen as the useless guy who is only there because he is black. Hell, the character himself even thought of himself that way when he was made an Avenger in the comics.

Somehow I missed Ms. Marvel when I was voting. I actually have thought she would be neat to add in a movie series (albeit revamped a bit).

But I was thinking of the other female “Captain Marvel”–the one who could turn into light.

Hulk is probably going to wander off at some point. “People hate Hulk!”

Even at Marvel, there are some cool female bricks. Some of them even fly. If they bring in the Kree (humanoid aliens with SCIENCE!), you could get someone like Ms. Marvel or Ultragirl.

Monica Rambeau, who, if that wiki is up to date, is currently going by Pulsar.

She’d be pretty cool, indeed.
