just an FYI, Pete Puma was voiced by Stan Freeberg.
I wish I could do Donald Duck. That one seems really tough.
Anyone from The Venture Brothers, especially Brock. I know it’s the guy who played Putty but I’d love to talk like that and of course kick ass like he does as well.
I have an old tape of Maurice LaMarche from his standup days. I think it might have been a Young Comedian’s Special or something. He was amazing. His impressions were so spot on, and he could shift gears from Edith Bunker to Rod Serling to Richard Nixon without missing a beat. He did an amazing impression of Dudley Moore in Arthur, then went into a bunch of cartoon characters, dropping an F-bomb while doing an impression of Yogi Bear that almost made me wet my pants.
<Boo-Boo>“Gee Yogi, I don’t think the Ranger’s gonna like this.”</Boo-Boo>
<Yogi>“Well f*ck the Ranger, Boo-Boo. I’m smarter than the average bear.”</Yogi>
His delivery was incredible.
In that particular special, he was followed on stage by Bob Nelson, IIRC, who did his whole football routine and killed. Maybe there’s a clip floating around YouTube somewhere - I’m just too lazy to search.
So, yeah. Maurice LaMarche=very talented.
Okay, so maybe I’m not so lazy. Check out this link to see Maurice LaMarche in action.
Daffy Duck, which I can’t rationalize because I’m more of a WB cartoon guy, but as has been pointed out upthread, so much comedy can be derived from anything recited in the Daffy voice.
I’d like to be able to do a perfect Boomhauer voice. I can do a passable Dale Gribble, but only for brief periods: doing Dale’s voice is very Zen, and the moment I start to think about what a good job I’m doing, it’s gone.
Edit:
Oh, and Homer Simpson. There are entirely too many times it would come in handy to sound like Homer.
Maurice ain’t quite so slim anymore.
Bender would indeed be pretty cool. His voice isn’t that strange so I cant even imagine how I would try to emulate it.
My friend does a good Connery impression, but only when he tries to emulate the Connery-based guy whose name escapes me from Venture Bros.
Oooooh, I would LOVE to be able to do Brock!
Oh. :o
Professor Farnsworth
“Good news everyone. Tomorrow, you’ll all be making a delivery to Ebola 9, the virus planet.”
I remember watching that Young Comedian’s special on HBO when I was in college…over, and over, and over again! Richie Gold’s “Doody” bit always killed me, and Bob Nelson’s football schtick is, IMHO, the funniest. Stand-up. Routine. Ever!
I don’t remember Maurice LaMarche from that, but he definitely nails Jim Ignatowski!
That’s the late Colonel Gentleman.
That would be Colonel Gentleman.
Go Team Venture!
I struggled with that for years. These days I can do a pretty good “YES!” but nothing else in his voice. This is what you call a mixed bag.
There are a bunch of Simpsons characters I feel like I do well - Sideshow Mel is probably my best - but I’ve never really gotten Homer’s voice down. Seeing as how he’s the main character and gets most of the best lines, that’s a disappointment.
I don’t know if you’re pulling my leg or not, but if I try that technique I’ll either choke to death or play nose kazoo.
No, he’s sorta right. Close your throat and try to speak from the back of your mouth. But yeah, Shake is a great voice. Very dynamic.
The OP asked for a voice you wish you could do.
Mine is Elmer Fudd, and I’d use it whenever my Caller ID showed a stranger of some sort was calling.
I would identify myself as the person the caller was trying to contact, but would stay in Elmer’s chawacter throughout each and every call.
If one of you CAN do Mr. Fudd, and does so as I described, please start a thread to tell us about it. I think it could be convulsively funny.
Sorry for continuing to hijack the thread, but…
I probably wore out that tape, but I had only had Gold, LaMarche and Nelson’s routines on it for some reason. (Someone had taped the special for me.) Now I’m over at YouTube watching what I missed, and I must say that Rodney Dangerfield had one hell of a lineup that night: Rita Rudner, Yakov Smirnoff, Louie Anderson, Sam Kinison, Bob Saget - lots of household names there.
Mickey Mouse.
I can do a passable Goofy and Donald, but it takes a lot of work to do Mickey right.
I’d also like to do the voice-over guy from the Goofy “How To” shorts.
Thank you mikemo!
Those two tapes knocked me out.
