Which classical goddess was the bustiest?

Going by descriptions of her in literature, I would have thought Hera/Juno (hence the adjective “Junoesque”); but all the classical statues of her are b-cups at most. In fact none of the Greco-Roman goddesses seem to be depicted as full-figured; would that have been considered vulgar by Greek sculptors?

Artemis is often depicted with multiple breasts, so I’d say she’s the bustiest.

reek Goddesses aren’t all that busty, just as Greek figures of men or gods aren’t terribly well-endowed (the exception being Priapus and other dwarflike figures of that sort. You could have a huge penis if you were otherwise grotesque.)
If you want Big Boobs, look to Indian Goddesses, especially the Asparas

If you want something closer to Greece, try the Minoan Snake Goddess:

Depending on your definition of “classical”, if you go as recent as 400BC and a little further south than Greece and Rome, I’d nominate Parvati / Devi in the Hindu pantheon. Rowr!

Fertility fetishes, often known as mother goddesses, are second to none in their exaggerated features.

That’s an adjective? googles Huh. Well, I’ll be adding that to my active vocabulary. Although I must say that it’s ironic just how well it does not describe Ellen Page.

Anyway, yeah: Large breasts weren’t really part of the classical beauty ideal (as long as we’re talking Greeks/Romans). Going by the sculptural evidence, about a handful per boob seems to have been considered optimal. So, wherever we got our current bizarre cultural obsession with oversized chestal regions from, it wasn’t from there.

BTW: Interesting OP/username combo.

When I imagine a Greco-Roman mother goddess, I don’t picture someone like This: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/39250/39250-h/images/mgr12.jpg

I picture someone like : https://revcontent-p0.s3.amazonaws.com/content/images/7cef2b22c08edc76597aee616196e477.jpg. Now THAT’s Junoesque.

(Mods, I did remember the two-click rule; why the hell isn’t noparse working?)

Replying now because I got a Popular Link award. Anyway, let’s try again for the comparison photo I was trying to link to:

Now that’s a Hera, goddess of motherhood and the mythological source of the Milky Way, that I can imagine Zeus blasting mortals for ogling at her.

:open_mouth: I was expecting another statue!

Me too.

Were we just Rick Rolled?

I’m going to go ahead and say that this is the type of thread that makes women on this board wonder if there’s any place for them here. Not ranked in the first level, active misogyny, but one which is so completely about the male gaze that I for one feel a familiar taste of bile.

Yeah. “How have beauty standards varied across different times and cultures?” is potentially an interesting question. “Here are some ancient statues which might illustrate contemporary beauty standards” could be a reasonable cite depending on the tone of the discussion.

“What about tits?” accompanied by a photo of a live model bending over to show a couple of acres of cleavage… It’s unseemly at best and inappropriate for the boards, let alone the forum.

I hope you aren’t on any watchlist since that search result will leave the Government agent assigned to your case very confused.

Moderating:

Yup. I’m going to temporarily close this thread pending review of one of the FQ mods.

@Lumpy this post may have been acceptable in 2016, but since then we have been trying to make the SDMB less hostile to our female members. Let’s not have any more posts that are simply objectifying women and parts of their anatomy.
