A minor tangent, but this reminded me of one of the last Justice League of America stories written by Gardner Fox in the sixties. A council of aliens decides (rather arbitrarily) that five Justice Leaguers – Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, and the Martian Manhunter – all obtained their powers by accident or by birth, and therefore don’t deserve them. The aliens bring those JLAers to their world and remove their powers. The planet is soon invaded, however, and in the course of bravely defending the council from their enemies, the heroes regain their powers.
How about having her find a doohickey, then she finds out from her parents that she’s got alien powers and the doohickey is just a focus for them.
The idea I’m looking at now is that she has dormant powers due her mom getting involved in some dangerous stuff, but mom leaves her a choice: take one shot and the powers and stuff will be gone and you’ll no longer have physical issues from them, or take another shot and they’ll no longer be dormant and you can fight baddies as I did.
Or perhaps her ultimate sidekick has all the powers but cannot do anything with them without her to control them. That would make for some interesting conflicts even on the “good” side.
But she’ll still have the physical issues if she activates the dormant powers, right? Otherwise, it’s way too easy a call.
I’m not sure. I’m considering having her be changed physically if she activates them, that way she’ll have to lose her ability to relate to people in some way. I think I have a good bit of the origin figured out-let me polish it and I’ll post it.
