Which company would you be most upset about if they went bankrupt and closed?

Tim Horton’s
PayPal

Eddie Bauer. Just about every item of clothing I wear comes from there, as they are one of the few normal (i.e. not “Big and Tall”) stores that carry tall sizes. The company filed for bankruptcy earlier this year and I just about had a heart attack. Luckily, it looks like there’s currently no plan to close their retail stores, at least not at this point.

Google, of course. And I’ll second Tim Horton’s.

In the realm of companies that would be more likely to actually go out of business, I’ll nominate the Vietnamese pho place here in town that so far is the only place I’ve been able to find really good pho. And Larson’s Toys and Games, a local toystore where I do a lot of Christmas and birthday shopping for my kids.

Heinz. Specifically their Ketchup line.

My company, of course (I’m a sole proprietor).

After that, hmm… perhaps the gym I go to.

Google by far.

Google. Diet Coke. My local butcher. Trader Joe’s. Acme Bread.

ING Direct. I love love love banking with them. It’s so easy and user-friendly, and there are no fees and no minimums for savings and CDs.

Now, if they could just up the interest rates back to 2006 levels.

XM Sirius. 'Cause then there really will be nothing on the radio in my car and I hate burning/changing CDs. I’m a stockholder and the last annual report I got, they were talking about a reverse stock split. That usually means the ship is not only sinking, but she’s shifting and listing too.

Google. Amazon. REI.

Dr Pepper. I’d have to take about two weeks off of work to go into Diet Dr Pepper rehab.

Amazon
Google
Sierra Nevada
XM Sirius (Dogzilla, that’s terrible news. I can’t do terrestrial radio any more!)

Gotta second Dr Pepper. Oh the withdrawal I’d have…
A tiny little butcher in southern MN who makes the most heavenly marinated roasts.
Micro Center - computer parts

Target! I’m in the process of replacing any and all name brands I normally purchase with Target brands and have found that they’re equal or even superior to, their more expensive counterparts! Plus they have great, inexpensive clothing!

The Amazing Live Sea-Monkeys®

Gap (incl. Banana Republic and Old Navy) - I need the tall pants, like others in the thread. I also buy tons of my kids’ clothes from Old Navy - they have great sales.

Target (I also like their store brand)

Apple

Netflix - although I am sure someone would fill the niche, would they do it as well?

Meijer (local superstore, better than WalMart, ours has online grocery ordering)

Honda

Ikea

I know, I can’t either.

XM Sirius’s stock is tied to the auto industry. Cash for Clunkers was like a shot in the the arm for XMSR (I think the ticker is now SIRI since the merger), so that might help keep 'em in business for a while. Hopefully, the car industry will bounce back soon and hopefully before XM Sirius tanks altogether.

I am hesitant, however, to renew my subscription next year for two full years. I’m not confident they’ll be in business that long and they surely won’t refund any prepaid subscriptions if they close shop before my two years is up. (They won’t even prorate refunds if you cut off your subscription to start a new one with a new radio!) I’ll be paying more per month, but I might have to go to six months or month-to-month unless the stock rebounds and people start buying satellite radios, or cars with 'em.

Would HD Radio be any consolation, or is XM way ahead of that too?

Borders or Barnes & Noble. Either one would cut my number of places to hang out in half.

Though I’ve gotten wary of Borders since they’ve apparently cut their selection by a third or more, and everyone says Borders is going to die next year. :frowning:

If it has ads or talking djs, I can’t do it. XM Sirius is the only thing that exists between LA and Las Vegas.
