Ooh that reminds me, Rubberband Man.
Rubberband Man always reminds me of:
Born to Be Alive by Patrick Hernandez
Was used – maybe debuted – in some Roller Disco movie in the early '80’s. I think.
Steve Carr certainly blew a perfect opportunity to do that in Movie 43. Mind you, I thought The Proposition was great as it was, but including that song would have been, ahem, the bomb.
The soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 was announced today. It includes “Wham Bam Shang-a-Lang”, by Silver, which I don’t think I’ve heard in close to 40 years.
I don’t recall ever hearing that. What a truly awful song. No guilty pleasure love like with Hooked on a Feeling, just a cheesy-ass lyric over a chorus that’s a variant of Cher’s Dark Lady, but even stupider. I didn’t know that was possible. ;).
The soundtrack to Trolls includes Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” and Diana Ross’s “I’m Coming Out” (with some remixing), as well as covers of Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” and Lionel Ritchie’s “Hello”.
I’m seeing in my mind’s eye: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=love+is+the+answer
“Love is the Answer” by England Dan and John Ford Coley, playing over the last scene of some drama in which the protagonists come to a new peace with mutual respect and understanding. The music volume gradually ramps up as the song gets kicking and the characters look at each other sheepishly. Oh my, they’re both thinking the same thing: we can make this work. A twinkle in his eye and a smirk at the corner of her mouth. They fall into each other’s arms and the chorus takes the song away as we fade to black.
Various KC and the Sunshine Band songs have been used recently (“Give it Up” in Kingsman, “Boogie Shoes” in The Intern, “That’s the Way” in too many to count), but there are still plenty of songs ripe for the picking. I’m sure most have been in a movie at some point, but more is better.

I’ve always said (well, maybe not always) if I made a movie, I’d include ELO’s Sweet Talking Woman on the sooundtrack.
I had forgotten about Badfinger’s “Baby Blue” when it appeared in the Breaking Bad finale. So did a lot of people, apparently:
Not to be confused with Sweet City Woman.
Ooh: Sooner or Later by Grass Roots.
Brother Louie - by Stories
Haven’t You Heard? - Patrice Rushen
Third Rate Romance - Amazing Rhythm Aces
Probably used in something by now, but I see them being used in some goofy love story.
And just because it’s one of the best songs of its type: One Nation Under a Groove - Parliament/Funkadelic
ETA: One Nation isn’t obscure, tho… So … Maggot Brain - P/Funk (has a great guitar, man)
Apparantly, Maggot Brain was used in an ep of House.
Couldn’t Get It Right - Climax Blues Band.
A version of “Brother Louie” is already used for the intro to the FX series “Louie”, starring Louie C.K., but it’s a new version based off both the Stories and original Hot Chocolate versions of the song, though the Stories singer does sing it (and changes the lyrics slightly.)
Remixed Killer Queen in the trailer for the upcoming Atomic Blonde (which I can’t link to here at work. Someone help a brother out.) which appears to be trying REALLY hard to be the next action/spy/fun Guardians/Kingsman knock off.
The trailers I see mostly have a re-done Blue Monday soundtrack. And I see one that has Sweet Dreams in it. If there is one with Killer Queen, I am missing it.
ETA: I see it now, One minute or so into the red band trailer.
That looks nothing like Guardians of the Galaxy.
+1 on the ‘Sir Duke’ suggestion. It’s got the perfect mood for a ‘life is great cuz I’m kicking @ss!’ montage.
