Which movie should I see?

That would be The Opportunists, which I have yet to see.

That’s Saving Grace. Not terrible, but certainly uneven.

august is certainly a bad month. June-August, really. But come October, I’m in heaven.

Are you implying that there’s something in the movie Coyote Ugly OTHER than girls dancing on a bar? I have yet to see any evidence of that.

And, just for the record, I am 14 (well, 15 in less than a week. ) and Coyote Ugly looks like the most horrible piece of crap to ever call itself a movie.

THANK YOU! I was reading the other posts in horror. Do NOT pay money to see Hollow Man. I honestly think it sucked a few points off my IQ just watching it.

And keep in mind, Verhoven directed SHOWGIRLS.

Space Cowboys was pretty good. Ukulele Ike, it only cost $11.80, that includes my large popcorn and large soda. The advantage of being rural. The disadvantage is listed in the OP – poor selection.

I didn’t know Donald Sutherland was in it, or this thread wouldn’t exist – I’d have gone without question. He’s one of my favorite actors, and he does a great job here. All the old guys do a good job, as you’d expect from such an experienced group.

Of course, the premise of the film is ridiculous. The ‘obsolete’ technology these guys are supposedly the only people capable of fixing, is the technology I started my career with. So you need 40 year olds, not 70 year olds, to fix it. Also, of course, the whole Russian thing is dated and stupid.

I did learn a few things: 1) You can still hear sounds in space – particularly rockets. 2) Rockets sound a lot like jet engines. 3) You point a rocket directly at a far away object (like the moon) if you want to hit it. 4) It’s awfully chilly in the building where they work on the rocket engines.

On the whole, it was an enjoyable film, but nothing that can’t wait for video, as long as you have surround sound.

Thanks for the recommendation, Dopers!

Well, you have to give them credit for good marketing. However, I would say that only about 10-15% of the movie is in the bar, and only about 25% of that is on the bar.

Not quite the most horrible ever. Some parts were even pretty good. But in the end it wasn’t great. I thought it was funny that she went to NYC because she wanted to be a serious songwriter but ended up being a girl-group Brittney-Spears-Wannabe writer. Oh, the irony.

Hey! I liked Showgirls. And I’m not alone, it’s one of Jim Jarmush’s favorite films too. So there.
