Which movies to buy for an upcoming plane trip?

I am thinking of buying a couple of movies for an upcoming trip. Short flights, but potentially lots of waiting in airports.

What movies have you seen recently that you might recommend?

When traveling I would probably prefer something lighthearted, or at least with some humor in it.

I haven’t seen many recent movies except Inception and Precious. Neither of which are very new, I guess.

Some of my favorite movies of all time (in case it helps, though I am open to any suggestions) are: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Tombstone, Office Space, The Full Monty, State and Main. Also like Lord of the Rings, Serenity and BBC costume dramas.

Easy A is good. Lighthearted, humorous, and recently released.

I was eye balling that one!

Yep! Easy A. Also Angela, by Luc Besson (director of The Professional.)

Idiocracy. Easy and fun to watch. Great way to kill a couple of hours.

A Knight’s Tale is one of my favorite ‘light watching’ movies; you can halfway pay attention and still follow it, but if you have the opportunity and motivation to actually pay attention, there are a few layers of cleverness you may miss on the first viewing. Plus, Heath Ledger was so beautiful! :frowning:

So far, everyone has recommended movies I haven’t seen, but wanted to see. How weird is that?

Alive

Airplane I, II & III

Die Hard II

Red Eye

Air Force One

Airport, Airport 77, Airport 79

Raid at Entebbe

Flight Plan

The Terminal (good survival strategies, given the current weather situation)
And of course, Blazing Saddles. Just because. And an equal opportunity offender, regardless of your seatmate.

I may need Alive and The Terminal, since it’s winter. Thanks for the suggestions!

And Blazing Saddles is always appropriate.

Call the airline(s) and ask what movies they’re going to be showing on the flights. Then watch those in the departure lounge. Then, when they show the movie on the flight, you can turn to your seatmate and say, “Seen it.”

Or keep telling them what happens next.

Hilarity is sure to ensue.

And possibly penis.

OOooo, I think I’d be good at being “annoying seatmate.”

Not weird at all. We’re Dopers. We don’t believe in psychics, but we practice the art, nonetheless. We’re just that good. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had a lot of fun with The Brother’s Bloom. A quirky light movie with a little romance.

Forgot one- Executive Decision.

Despicable Me.

Snakes On A Plane

Altitude

Castaway

The Stewardesses (you can Wiki it, but don’t google it from work!)

Ooh, good one! We got our daughter the DVD for Christmas, and she still watches it just about every day. We saw it, as a family, in the movie theater. The animation was excellent, the story line was good, lots of LOL moments, a few ::sniff:: moments. . .great movie!

United 93. Too soon?

Zero Hour.

Actually, I see Die Hard 2 is taken, so I’m changing my choice to Escape From New York.
