I just want to know which of his programs that he addressed in the campaign have been executed, as in, which ones have come to fruition? I know that 870 billion dollars being spent isn’t a small thing, but, if it was during the campaign that this idea came up, then it counts, but, as only one of his programs.
Rephrased: say some pundits have kept count of his campaign goals/promises. This thread is asking how many of them, and which ones, have been accomplished.
Please save responsibility for a programs failure or success for your own thread. Also, please save comparisons, blame, assistances, hindrances, from other presidents for your own thread.
Politifact have been doing just this very thing since Obama was inaugurated. So far, he’s kept 96 of a total of 503 promises made on the campaign trail.
He seems to be making good on his promises to refocus on Afghanistan. There has been a major offensive going on there since the weekend (curious why there hasn’t been a thread started on this as it’s fairly major), and all indications are it’s been a well thought out and executed plan that has all the signs of having a major effect on the conflict there. Granted, it’s a NATO (with Afghanistan troops) effort, but the US is the major player from what I can see, and it all seems to stem from his campaign promises to focus on Afghanistan.
Also it keeps track of compromises and broken promises. I personally think compromises go into the “kept promise” category. I think that’s an important part of leadership.
Depends on what is being compromised exactly. I looked through some, and frankly, I think some of his promises are better off left as compromises or in some cases broken.
It was a nice self-check though, seeing I did agree with some of his promises that he has kept up.
For me, a lot about Obama rides on how he handles the military. I’m concerned that he will start ramping up the war machine in the middle east again (perhaps with Pakistan, perhaps with Palestine. perhaps with Iran). He hasn’t done enough at this point to sell me on the idea that we are done with this madness of policing the globe via nation building, preemptive strikes, and military dominance.
