which of these guitars just look cooler to you?

My thoughts exactly.

I chose the Les Paul, because I have a Cherry Sunburst Les Paul Epi.

Strictly on appearance - the Les Paul.

Both are cool for different reasons but I guess i’d go for the Les Paul. My thing is that I feel like the sunburst Les Paul is so iconic that it’s kind of a boring answer.

However if this thread is a raffle and you’re giving one away i’ll take the Gretsch.

I’m a sucker for cherry sunburst. Just love it. Do Gretsch’s come in cherry sunburst, 'cause I’ll take that option. Seriously, send it to my room, bathed and perfumed. Told you I love cherry sunbursts

The Gibson’s flash, the Gretsch is retro-cool. There’s arguably quite a bit of retro-cool about the Les Paul as well, but a hollow-body just screams it. Gretsch wins, but it would benefit from a different paint-job.

I’d go the solid body, I don’t like the look of f holes.

(without reading the thread in case anything I say is repeated)

A- if you’re going to play country/countrypop or rockabilly type

B- for anything else.

I think B looks cooler because I don’t like any of the musical options I put in A, so I say B
Edit: I am not a musician in any way shape or form.

Les Paul all the way, no matter the color.

At least two necks or I’m not interested.

Player with a bias towards classic and vintage, I prefer B.

B. I’ve always liked Les Pauls. I used to own a cheap Les Paul clone. None of my current guitars is that style though.

I also really like the way a true Les Paul sounds.

I know nothing about guitars. I like B better, A is too fancy or complicated looking.

I have B. It’s cool.

Although since it’s a Les Paul Classic Plus “1960”, you’ll want to replace the unfortunate stock ceramic pickups with something better. I put covered Seymour Duncan’s in mine, Pearly Gates in the bridge, SH-1 '59 in the neck.

I know nothing about guitars. I thought A was cooler, though the big white thing on the front is a bit jarring.

Why are you asking?

If the purpose of a guitar is to get babes, and it mostly is, then ‘looks cooler’ means ‘gets the kind of babes you’re after.’

[QUOTE]
This. The babes I’m after would go for the Gretsch…the LP is too obvious, too bland looking, too “everybody has one” for me, and thus for the chix I’m looking to meet.

Disclaimer: I played my first paid guitar gig on New Year’s Eve 1968. Made my living playing for 10 years. Still play whenever I can.

I vote for A. I like the black & orange. Did not even notice it had holes until I read the thread. I know nothing about guitars.

I hate cherry sunburst. It’s so cheesy and just feels outdated to me. I love the look of hollow body electrics (I like the sound better too. They tend to be played with a cleaner, more mellow sound which I appreciate.)

So the Gretsch wins for me. I am not a guitar player, but I am married to one and have spent many hours of my life wandering around guitar stores while my husband window shops.

I’m not a guitar player. I like B. It looks like it’s been around the block yet well cared for. I like that.

I never cared that much for the look of hollow bodies until I saw Clapton playing that Byrdland in Concert for Bangla Desh. BEAUTIFUL looking instrument. Problem is (besides the price) being a hollow body, it’s prone to feedback and lacks sustain. Now, if they made a semi-hollow one, where the neck, bridge, pickups and tailpiece were all mounted to a hard maple, or maybe mahogany block, I think it would be a beautiful and great sounding guitar.
