Which Olympic sport gets too much coverage?

And why?

IMO - men’s basketball. If I want to see NBA players, I have a whole season in which to do that. And they have little excuse for not dominating things.

Beach volleyball. 10 years ago, I would watch it occasionally as a time killer on cable sports stations. But, the last two Olympics have features hours and hours of beach volleyball.

I’m sure their attire is a main reason for this.

Beach volleyball was exactly what I was going to say. Hours and hours, days of beach volleyball, and not ten seconds of Judo. I’m sure it’s the attire as well. Maybe they should do Judo naked. They could call it Nudo.

My viewing has been limited to Prime Time on NBC, but I haven’t seen one minute of basketball all week.

My vote is for swimming. You couldn’t pay me to watch a swim meet in normal circumstances, but in the Olympics it becomes the hugest thing. If Americans weren’t winning a lot of medals, nobody would watch it and the networks wouldn’t televise it.

I came in to say beach volleyball. I don’t have anything against the sport, but why is it always on? How many medals are they going to hand out, anyway? Where’s my medal? For all I know, they’re replaying the same game 40 times and nobody would notice because it’s girls in bikinis.

On the other hand, somebody at NBC just got a big bonus.

Beach volleyball. It’s extremely boring. There is no point to it whatsoever except to show women in skimpy bikinis.

Yes, Beach Volleyball.

Sure, the competitors are scantily clad and sort of hot, but the game is dull, dull, dull. An average volley is – what? – like five seconds long? The ball goes over the net maybe four times before someone scores a point and all the action stops. Rinse, repeat, over and over. There is no momentum to hold your attention.

Gymnastics, diving, and (in the winter time) figure skating. If you need judges (as opposed to referees) to determine the winner, it’s not really a sport.

Boxing. Oh, and beach volleyball.

I thought the complaint about beach volleyball was that the competitors didn’t have enough coverage?

Another vote for beach volleyball. I haven’t actually seen it this year (I haven’t gotten to see much Olympic coverage, and what I have seen so far has only been regular volleyball, swimming, and gymnastics)–do they still have the incredibly sexist uniforms where the women wear little bikinis and the guys get to wear shirts and long shorts?

It’s annoying. If the women want to wear the bikinis that’s one thing, but it shouldn’t be a requirement (I read somewhere that it is). Or else put the guys in trunks and no shirts. It’s only fair.

There can never be enough boxing! Besides, it makes up for all the years it was completely ignored during the pander to women years of 1984-1996.

Basketball, and Beach volleyball. Actually, I’m not a big fan of team sports in general. My ideal Olympic event are things like swimming, diving and gymnastics, where one only need watch intently for a minute or two and then the next event/competitor is up.

I guess I am the only male on earth who doesn’t drool uncontrollably at beach volleyball. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think they’re ugly or disgusting or anything, But I just never found a six-pack to be a particularly atractive and feminine characteristic. I just like buts and curves, sue me.

Soccer. There should never be any coverage of this. Ever.

Hmm, this must be a difference between US and British coverage, because there has been very little beach volleyball on TV here. I mean it’s there, on the so-called interactive alternative feeds, but not on the main channels.

The women’s gold medalists from four years ago are trying to defend their medals. And they just happen to be from the U.S. My money is on the beach volleyball coverage dropping precipitously should Kerri Walsh and Misty May Trainer be eliminated.

And really, it’s not like there’s been huge gobs of coverage. But on the other hand, I’ve seen parts of 2 or 3 matches, all featuring the above mentioned team, and it just seems excessive and repetitive.

Women’s gymnastics.

Their attempts to be artsy and beautiful just creep me out due to their age and the tumbling is horrible compared to the men.

You guys are out of your minds. Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh are one of the most dominant teams in all of sports. They’re something like 465-16 in their career and currently on a 105 match winning streak. One hundred and five matches in a row. Their first game against Belgium last night had my heart racing.

And Misty May has curves. And neither one of them have six-pack abs.

I find the beach volleyball fun to watch and not because of the outfits either. The Americans are good but not so good the games don’t get close at times.

I keep running into water polo when ever I turn on the TV so that seems excessive to me.

I would of like to seen the judo though. They had the wrestling on a good bit but everyone is so skilled nothing really happens.

Edited for sense.
