Which one of you MADs shut down Baltimore?

Worst commute ever.

To everyone not enlightened enough to live in Baltimore yet, Jones Falls Expressway is the major thoroughfare for getting downtown workers out of Baltimore and back to their stinking shit holes in the Suburbs. Think Lincoln tunnel, Holland Tunnel, George Washington Bridge all rolled into one. . .on a much smaller scale.

Well, some fuckin rump munch had a crash on it yesterday and shut. It. Down.

Personally, I work south of the city, and live in the city, and get home through regular streets anyway. However, those regular streets handled ALL the overflow from JFX and consequently, Baltimore was a fuckin’ parking lot.

My normal 10 minutes from downtown to home took me 1:15.

Lights changed and NO ONE moved. 1 block in some cases took 20 minutes as one car would get through a light during it’s green. People were blocking intersections, left turners were blocking go-straighters. Go-straighters were blocking left-turners. It was a fuckin’ mess.

The only solace was that the O’s had an afternoon game, so I got to listen to that.

I was sitting in traffic going, “Man, I hope someone died because at least that idiot is off the road.”

Then I read this. . .

So now I feel bad. I only hope is was the idiot that caused it and not an innocent idiot.

Now you make me happy that I moved from Butcher’s Hill to Middle River. Since I work north of DC, all I do to get home is run 95 through Baltimore and avoid the downtown completely.

It’s my fault. I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you. Want to go to the O’s game tomorrow night? I have an extra ticket.

To get us square, that ticket better come with a beer, a hot dog, and a lady sitting on my lap.

Actually. . .in case you were serious. . . I’m out of town Friday-Tuesday. Have fun though.

I work downtown and usually take Calvert Street north and make my way over to Harford and take that straight on out. Late yesterday afternoon, however, I could see outside my window that traffic on Calvert was a mess. I took Gay Street north, instead, and had no problems whatsoever.

This morning, however, Harford Road was a friggin’ mess.

It took me over an hour yesterday to get from Dundalk Avenue to Charles and Mt Royal. It should have taken me 15 to 20 minutes.

It took me 35 minutes to get from Conway Street to Lexington. Bumper to bumper all the way.

It was a mad house. I also take Calvert north. I knew nothing of it.

Sometimes, I take MLK north, and I bet that would have been better. For me, MLK and Calvert are close, but somedays I just like riding through downtown. . .check out the people at Oliver’s, check out the foot traffic, etc. etc.

I heard on the radio that there were JFX problems while I was still on 95, but it didn’t really dawn on me that it would cause such a snarl.

I’m serious about having an extra O’s ticket, but I was kidding about the traffic being my fault. You would not believe how hard a time I’m having giving away this Orioles ticket.

Yeah. . .I’m just a casual fan myself. You couldn’t have paid me to go to one of those Toronto games this week. Particularly this time of year, you don’t know if you’re going to be sitting in the cold and the damp. Sweet win yesterday, though.

I don’t get to many games but I try to go to one or two games a year. They are playing the Royals so I think the O’s should be fine. And the weather looks to be warming up this next week. I was originally supposed to go to the game with my old neighbor, but he can’t get the night off now. Everyone else I have asked already has other plans. I may just end up selling the ticket down there to pay for my beers.

When’s the game? I could maybe go.

7:35pm. I haven’t heard back from one last person who I asked to go. If he doesn’t want to/can’t go you are welcome to meet me there. I should know sometime this afternoon.

Oh, come on, this happens every so often. Last year it was the tanker truck that fell off 95, a few years ago it was the train on fire and derailed in the tunnel. It just wouldn’t be Baltimore without traffic tie-ups!

One of the worst ones I ever had was when a tractor trailer filled with mulch flipped over on I-95 north. It made only brief news, but I remember it.

When the tanker fell onto 95 last year, we got a real early warning and I went up 29 to 70.

They always seem to fall on days I have something to do, too.

What’s the next one going to be, a herd of buffaloes in Pikesville. . .or is that too far fetched?

and yesterday it was the recycling truck and 18 wheeler shutting down 895. Oh the joy of city traffic…

They were bison! Not buffaloes. BISON!

Sheesh. Everybody knows Buffaloes is in New York.

You hush, you Pennsylvanian!

Weirddave that ticket is yours if you want it. I’ll send you an email.
