My mother is a short, chubby redhead with freckles and green eyes. Dad is olive-skinned, short, fat and bald (his hair was dark brown when he had any) and has brown eyes.
My sister is a tall, chubby blonde with fair skin and blue eyes - she looks Swedish.
One brother is tall, thin and has sandy hair, freckles and blue eyes, (he looks Irish)the other is short, heavy and has blonde hair, olive skin and grey eyes (he looks Italian).
I’m short, thin and have dark brown hair, olive skin and brown eyes - people often ask me if I am Asian.
When people see us siblings together in any combination, they’re always floored to find out we’re related - yet ALL of us resemble my mother in features, and my sister’s voice, my voice and my daughter’s voice are just about indistinguishable over the phone. In addition, my daughter looks a lot like both my sister and me (and remember, we don’t look similar) and my sister’s daughter looks just like me.
Mom has a twin brother - he’s olive-skinned, dark haired, brown-eyed. HIS daughter is a short, chubby, green-eyed redhead with freckles.
AND my mother’s voice. Dammit, I didn’t preview. Anyhow - all the women in my family pretty much sound the same. It’s getting hard to tell my mom from my grandmother on the phone.
I look enough like my Dad that if you set our High School senior pictures side by side, I’m him, except for being female and having longer hair. And if you set his father’s picture from the same age on the shelf too, we all look like clones. I just got a different hair color, is all.
All of the males down to my generation have that stamp, and my cousin’s sons do too, although my sons and my sister’s sons don’t. I’m the only woman to have it distinctly. Thanks for the cowlick, Grampa!
My sister looks like my mother, and we both have her voice, minus the accent.
I have one of dad’s ‘cruise books’ – sort of a yearbook for the Navy. There’s a photo of him in the hangard deck of the USS Philippine Sea during the Korean Conflict. He’s kneeling down in front of a Christmas tree with the rest of the squadron, and is wearing a leather G-1 flying jacket. The photo was taken in 1951, I think.
Late-1980s or early-1990s. I took the cruise book to work and showed the photo to the guard.
‘Hey, Doug. Who does this look like?’
‘It’s you, ain’t it? … Ain’t it?’
I showed him the date on the book.
I looked exactly like my dad. The wife of a friend of mine said that it looked as if there was no woman involved in the transfer of genes from my dad to me. Kind of spooky, really.
Most people say I look like my father. I have a hard time seeing it. But I can see my childhood resemblance to his sister. Pictures of her when she was ~5-6 and pictures of me when I was that age look like the same person.
I look a lot like my dad in hair and face-shape, but otherwise, I’m a clone of my mom. We sound exactly alike and have similar mannerisms. But I have Dad’s sense of humor.
I look just like my mother and her mother before her. I have a picture of my grandmother taken in the 1920’s and most people think it is a picture of me. Also, when I was a child and we used to visit my grandparents in Germany, strange people would stop me on the streets of the village my mom grew up in and give me messages for her. They wouldn’t even ask to make sure who I was, they were in no doubt who my mother was!
It’s a little scary because I can look at my mom and pretty much know what I am going to look like in 35 years.
Strangely enough, though, in personality I’m more like my dad.
I look a lot like my mom (body, face shape, nose), only I got my height and colouring from my dad, my eyes as well. People can usually tell I am their child when I’m out with them. My brother looks a lot more like my dad though, baby pictures show they looked exactly alike and the only way to tell who was who is that my brother is in colour
My son looks a lot like me and my dad and brother. Comparing pictures of brother and my son and we can only tell the difference because of the setting and outfits. He does have curlier hair though, but that’s about all he got from his father.
I look like an exact cross between. I have traits (both physical and personality) in common with both parents and relatives on both sides. It’s kind of like if you picked and chose alternating features from each side, you’d get me.
Actually, my sisters do too, though one of them more closely resembles my dad and also my maternal grandmother, and the other of them more closely resembles my mom, but with dad’s skin and body type from his mother/sisters.
My parents actually have a lot of relatives and photos of ancestors that look a lot alike, and they think they may be related back several generations. The families really look a lot alike.
One of my (male) cousins looks almost exactly like my dad did at his age, starting from about age 3 (the cousin is now 17 I believe).
And somehow my sisters and I look like sisters, and sometimes people mistake one of us for another as we’re all between the ages of 18 and 25.
I love genetics. I love looking at families and seeing traits in common from parent to kid. Several people I know are fun to speculate about. My half step cousin looks like a blond, blue-eyed Asian (or maybe Bjork), and both her parents have brown hair and eyes. Nobody knows where the blond/blue came from, but the Asian look is actually Native American and Welsh on her dad’s side.
I’m a pretty near clone of my father. Find a picture of he or I after age 13, and match it to the corresponding age picture of the other, and it’s a near perfect match. Thankfully this means I know I’m going to be pretty good looking older guy
Except for the toes, my crooked “ring” toes come from Mom’s side of the family, as discussed in other threads.
I look like a dead ringer for my father, except that I have red hair and am female. If my mother and I stand side-by-side, there is some resemblance, but most people assume we’re not related.
I resemble my father much more than my mother, although I have a few of her traits too. My hair is a mix of the two (curly from my mom, thick from my dad).
I’m pretty much proof of genetics (and that my parentage isn’t in question). I look exactly like one of those computer simulations where you take two people’s faces and cut and paste features from each.
Would’ve been nice to get the better features from each, but eh. Bags under my eyes come from my dad, big nose comes from my mom. Better to have the face I’ve got than no face at all.
I look like my Mom. The only thing I got from my father was his bone structure. I coulda been short and petite but nooooooooooo, had to come out an Amazon …
My father and I have identical handwriting, though.
I’m a carbon copy of my mother from looks to health. The only manner in which I differ is my skin colour-my mother looks Middle Eastern/Mediterranean (olive-yellow skin) skin tone and my father has chocolatier Indian skin. I ended up golden brown (met them in the middle, I guess). In winter I turn a pleasant yellow colour and people wonder if I’ve caught Hep.
My facial features are pretty much a compromise of both my parents. Before late adolescence I was a dead ringer for my mom though. But my father’s features creeped in while i wasn’t paying attention.
Also aunts comment that my mannerisms are exactly like my fathers too, the way i walk and whatnot. We also come to much of the same conclusion in terms of politics or ethics even though we’ve never talked about those things until recently. I think pretty much the same way he does.
